Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
anyone know what price street fighter IV is for the ps3???
At a couple of stores where the 360 version was tagged $14.99 I'm pretty sure the PS3 version was $19.99. So most likely that is up to date. Like someone else said, this is fairly common at BBV (PS3 games priced a bit more).

There are so many great games hovering at $19.99: Beatles Rock Band, Lego Rock Band, Band Hero to name a few. There's the ever so slight chance that some of these will drop in price before the sale ends.
Hey, I ran out of my measily credit at the first store yesterday. I spent more cash there later that day than I ever have at BBV in my whole life up to that point ;).

Must have been a pre-pack or a price tag mistake because I'm pretty sure it is $29.99 for 360 (only Wii version is $14.99).

I stopped by my local store late Weds. I had skipped it because it didn't look like they had much last week. I probably should have gone there yesterday as they still had some good stuff today. Oh well... The one thing I am not seeing much is KH DS. Was that a comment rental conversion everywhere else?
I know how you feel. I'm running low of BBV credit and I can't really bring myself to spend actual money at BBV. What are some other good BBV->GS flips besides Kingdom hearts DS, and Mario Super Sluggers?

There are a lot of great games right at that point. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that at least a couple drop in time for the B1G1.

I just got really lucky when a BBV employee put Mario and Sonic at the WINTER Olympics in my Mario Sonic at the Olypic Games case. So I got Mario Super Sluggers Wii and Mario + Sonic at Winter Olympics for $9.99+tax total. I think I might keep them both because they are in mint condition. It just sucks that I don't have covers or manuals for either. Normally the Winter Olympics game is $29.99 used at BBV I believe, so there's no way that's dropping to $14.99 for this sale

YES. I would love to go back and scoop all of the copies of those up that I've seen so far. I would trade the shit out of them straight to Best Buy.
I really hate all of you people with pogs at your BBV's :bomb:.
You get really good games or newer ones with with high TIV's, while
I am forced to scrounge for dollar per dollar flips on 9.99 NDS titles for amazon credit with my ever dwindling BBV credit.
well if it makes you feel any better, I just found out that neither CoD:WaW or Saints Row 2 work. There is a mark on both of them near the center ring, and when I put them in my 360 they aren't detected. It just says "open tray".
I probably won't have time to replace them tillFriday or Saturday, and by then all the copies of the game or anything else I might want could be gone.
Kinda irritated now.

Ooh, that reminds me I need to test my pre-packs by doing disc installs to my 360. I noticed that this time around they weren't as perfect as before. I think some of those were in pretty poor shape before they refurbed them and they couldn't fix all of 'em. I actually had to switch to the other copy of Fallout 3 in the store when I bought mine because the first looked bad even refurbed (had a ring ground into it still).

Another game hovering just out of range is Toy Story Mania for the Wii. And it seems like every store has 3-5 of these, just like M&S Winter Olympics. I just got back from Disneyland a few weeks ago and my kids loved the ride and the game is based on that (the ride is just a 3D shooting range where you simply move from screen-to-screen and try to rack up points, so I could see the game working very well on the Wii).

Um, Mario galaxy isn't on the list?

Question: Is it absolutely necessary to buy a new game with this GS $25 promo? I remember the last time they did this you could simply trade one of the qualifying games and it automatically bumped the TiV to whatever was offered ($20 I think back then). You could then just get it on your Edge card. That worked wonders with employees that didn't even know about the deal anyway - the computer did it automatically. I'd much rather do that than buy something I don't want or have to try to return it later.

the reason some people have reported stores getting more stock of games is bbv gives us til wednesday to complete our game transfers and with last weeks transfer being quite large(about 100 pieces in my store) some stores may have taken their time doing it.

normally stores have a window from sunday-wednesday to do a rental conversion transfer. last week was the first time they gave us a window from mon-wed to do it so i dont know if thats going to be the norm or not.

game reprices take effect each monday. i usually post any highlights saturday morning when the report comes through.

i'll say it again. x360 rogue warrior is probably the best flip from GS to BBV right now. for those of you that have been around a while i'm thinking this may be another cranium bukkake situation. bbv sells the game on both platforms for $24.99 and the TIV for the PS3 version is $10 where the x360 version gets $22. its been $24.99 for a while now and the TIV for the x360 has not dropped at all. i ordered 2 copies from GS.com using cag16 and edge. comes to $18.89 + tax. if the tiv happens to drop before i get the games i can still return them in store and make some money since in store the price is $26.99.

mario only gave me 10 something till I purchased a 29.99 game with it. we tried it with ac2 but it would still only be 10 but they said it could be because gamedays sale wouldnt mix with upped credit sale, and i believe we tried it by itself and it stayed 10. the last few sales they just let me get credit tho, like 20 for uncharted and 40 for bayonetta and they just added it to my edge card. how does that work hawaii boy? for transferring gs credit to bbv credit? wouldnt they only give you credit for what you paid since you need a receipt to return it. also is it 7 days since you order it or get it that you have to return it? thanx alot

wow, glad I didn't purchase Oblivion today, I found out it's only the regular edition and not the GOTY edition, I'd still have to buy the expansions, can get the GOTY edition for $15 on craigslist anyways.

then i probably got lucky... or the list needs to be updated.. some of these prices were YMMV anyways.. like the dirt 2 for xbox ppl

The selection at my BBV was...lacking. Not that many titles that were outstanding, and the fact that 2 of the 3 original BBVs closed, I am quite limited in variety

I think he meant it isn't on the GS trade-in list for the $25 deal (it's not - I just checked). It is on the "BBV" list because it is $14.99 (and I've had it in the OP since I found it yesterday if not before). And I'll say it once again, prices are NOT YMMV at corporate BBV stores. Dirt 2 is $29.99 for 360 and PS3 but people are getting it for $14.99 because it seems to be frequently mistagged in confusion with the Wii version. But getting it for $14.99 requires a cashier override of the actual $29.99 price.

Here are some decent BBV to Amazon flips

Game Amazon Value BBV price after B1G1

PS3
Transformer RotF $12.50 $7.50

Wii
Coraline $9 $5
Dirt 2 $11 $7.50
Drawn to Life $9 $5

Only sharing these b/c I've already locked in the TIV at Amazon. Will post more after I get what I need to give to Amazon.

ah i see.. yes sorry galaxy wasn't on the list... i actually got about 20 dollars after edge for galaxy... looks like i forgot to mention i also picked up a mario+sonic summer olympics for the wii...no wonder the number of games were a bit off... thats what i traded in for the 25 bonus, although they charged me full price 40 for just dance because gameday promo did not stack.. i returned it for giftcard after.. deciding if i should preorder monster hunter tri.. or find another deal elsewhere

how does that work hawaii boy? for transferring gs credit to bbv credit? wouldnt they only give you credit for what you paid since you need a receipt to turn

from my experience in returning games in store from gs.com. The clerks look at the packing list then all they do is scan the game and it pulls up whatever the price of the game is in store. I've only done it twice but that's what happened both times. They didn't look to see what I actually paid for the game.

Thats what I meant. So you must be mistaken or you got two cashiers to do two overides for two transactions. Dirt for $14.99 and Mario Galaxy at GS for $25.
Ooh, that reminds me I need to test my pre-packs by doing disc installs to my 360.
Doing exact same thing as we speak. So far three out of my eleven 360 games have been tested and came out with no problems.

Damn, now I'm feeling greedy and want to check the Blockbusters this weekend as well if they restock.

I bought 2 mario/sonic @ the olympic games...2 mario super sluggers flipped them for 75 in credit at GS got 25 in cash from an employee who gave me a refund on a trade-in...BWAHAHAHA...got brutal legend, R6V2, Infamous(after swapping price sticker to 9.99), and ghostbusters for virtually free since I had 10 in credit at BBV...great day I must say

Even with Edge and multiple trade bonus, I don't see how you get $75 out of those four games. What am I missing? Are the trade values on CAG out of date?

Well, this is why I don't want to post anything - people can figure this out for themselves. But Drawn To Life has already dropped $1 from just Weds evening when I locked it in at $10. There are others, too, but I'm not posting them.

Note that they don't generally "restock" per se. They just convert things from rental around then. Needless to say, that is somewhat limited as they would need to have excess rentals to convert in the first place. It is somewhat unlikely for them to add more of the same things, for example, since they just recently converted many of the games people are getting. On the other hand, they do occasionally receive shipments of used games from other stores (ones that are closing or just reorganizing). But those can come in any time.

But there will never be any kind of restock like a new game retailer might have (more product coming in from a distributor or such).

Guess I'm the only one so far to luck out in picking up Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics for $9.99 so far. I'm going to guess that one is YMMV. Kind of tempted to check further away from the 7 I did hit.

Again, not YMMV - most likely a mistag from the regular version. Either they put the wrong price tag on it and overrode it for you or they may have even put the wrong POG barcode (the long skinny UPC strips that they scan when selling a used game) so that it actually did scan at $9.99 but if you look at said strip it would say it was the older version. In either case, it was a mistake as Winter Olympics does not qualify for the sale (it is $19.99 or $29.99, I forget which).

I want to say that $29.99 is the actual used price since that's what I saw on other copies I've come across. Guess I just lucked out then.

4 stores 26 games for $119.00 and only two repeats for friends. This sale rocks, now to figure out what to do with so many games.:bouncy:

Sigh...I won't be able to check out my local BBV until Saturday after work. *prays that what I want will be there*

Hit one store, no sale going on.
Hit the second: Fallout 3, Rock Band 2, MK v DC all POG $6.99 and Brutal Legend with box $9.99
Those 4 with a clearance metal sign $20.98

The sign says: Reality -- For losers that don't play video games

Yeah, I saw Mario & Sonic Winter and it was tagged for $29.99. One possibility is they tagged it thinking it was the Summer Olympics one, which is $9.99.

Anyone know if Gears of War 2 and Fallout 3 are only eligible for the B1G1 promo if they are POGs? I've seen both at my local BBV, but they're labeled as $19.99. Of course, they labeled Star Wars: The Clone Wars Republic Heroes at $29.99, when it actually rang up as $9.99, so those prices may not be accurate.

Went to a store in Newport Beach, either someone cleaned them out on all the current gen stuff, or the desk monkey was telling the truth about sending the games back to "somewhere". Went to the Irvine store a few miles away and got:

:ps3:
Afro Samurai & Bionic Commando for ~11 after CA tax.

Still trying to find some :wii: goodness for keeping and some for trading so the games I keep end up freeeeeeeee.
My store says B1G1 Free on all games EXCLUDING XBOX 360, PS3 and Wii.
 :bomb:

Doesn't leave much else, does it?

For anybody new to BBV or their B1G1 sales:

If a store is a corporate store (e.g. - not a franchise location), then the B1G1 free on used games $14.99 and under sale is running and is automatic in the register systems, regardless of whether or not the employees are aware of it (there is a decent chance they're not aware). Furthermore, it is valid on games of all platforms, regardless of whether or not the employees are aware of it. Additionally, prices are universal (at corporate, non-closing stores) and many locations I've been to have had out of date price tags, so never trust the tag if you have heard about a lower price here in the thread.

The discount is applied after two games have been rung up and the total key has been pressed. If the cashier doesn't total it until the end, then it will only promo off the cheapest games. For example, if you bought two $14.99 games and two $9.99 games and they didn't press total until the end, it would only promo off the two $9.99 games, which is obviously not what you want to happen. So, either ask/instruct the cashier on what to do, make separate transactions or trips to the counter or store, or just take your chances and hope the cashier knows what they're doing (good chance they don't though).

If it is a franchise store or a store that is closing down, then all bets are off.

I saw that at the 4 stores I went as well, also saw God of War collection at $19.99. I ask the store manager and she allow me to pick a second game for $14.99 or less for free, but is not part of the promotion, she was just nice since I was buying so many games. :p
I picked up Pure and Devil may cry 4 for $10. Also I saw 1 copy of afro samurai ps3 for $14.99. Has anyone played it before? Is it worth the 7.50?
Ya, Afro is a pretty cool game its worth the price and the soundtrack while u play is nice

I returned AC2 in-store yesterday that I bought from gs.com for $23.99+tax, got exactly that much back on a gift card. He said he couldn't even put it back on my Edge card, which is a slight loss for me since Edge purchases in-store are exempt from sales tax in my state.

Afro Samurai was tagged and rang up 9.99 so for $5 I bought it to play as thats the cost of rental. Could trade it or sell it to break even if I dont like it.

As was said earlier and should be reiterated ad nauseam: some of the tags on the games are old and may not reflect current prices. If in doubt have the desk monkey do their job and scan what you are interested in to get the current price. Nothing wipes the smirk off a face faster than seeing a game ring up less, and even more so when they dont know about the B1G1 sale, ring up 2 $10 games say that will be $20, and they hit total and its really $10. Then you get to wear the grin while they get to endure that you were right and know more about their deals than them.

I picked up Pikmin (Wii) and Civ Rev (360) for $9.99. I also saw they have EDF for $6.99 and debating if I want to get it.

I pre-ordered Toy Story Mania from Amzn when the ECA discount was active, it was fun for a short while on the Wii, but was a definite let down from the ride. I played through all the levels and traded it in pretty quick. The only real positive is that you don't have to wait 45-minutes in line at Disneyland (I was there last week). But if it drops to $14.99 or less for this sale, I would say it's a great pick-up.

So I figured I would try and check a different BBV thats a little further away than the other 3 stores I went to yesterday, I really wanted to find a copy of Mario & Sonic at the olympic games. Well I did find a copy of it at that store along with a copy of no more heros. Anyways when the lady was getting my games, I see she has a copy of M&S at the winter games and a copy of NMH2. I wasnt going to say anything and was just going to let her give me those copies when at the last second she says, wait a second and opens up the cases and see's she had made a big mistake, then goes and gets the right games for me. Damn I was so close! Oh well still got two good games for $10.

Mario Power Tennis - $14.99 (Traded in for $14 before promos at Gamestop!)

PS2
Okami - $6.99

PSP

Dead Rising - $6.99
Halo 3 - $6.99
Resident Evil 5 - $6.99
Rock Band 2 x2 - $6.99
Transformers: Rise of the Fallen - $6.99

I took the four DS games, Mario & Sonic Wii, Power Tennis, FF Dissidia, and a copy of CoD4 to Gamestop for nearly $140 in credit. This promo is always good to me!

Boom Blox Party x 2 (one doesn't have instructions)
Brutal Legend x 2 (one doesn't have instructions and one doesn't have cover art - but can print it up)
Star Wars: Clone Wars - Republic Heroes (missing cover art but has instructions) $9.99
Hawk $14.99 complete
Stuntman: Ignition $6.99 (missing instruction booklet)
Monsters vs. Aliens $9.99 complete
Viva Pinata (missing instruction booklet) $6.99
Watchmen $9.99 complete
Viking $6.99 complete
Blacksite: Area 51 $9.99 missing instruction booklet
Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings (missing instruction booklet) $9.99
Marvel Super Hero Squad - complete $14.99

Roughly got 14 game for about $76 give or take. Not too bad at all. I only got screwed $3 when the clerk at one BBV rang up my free game with one of the $14.99 Boom Blox games was a $6.99 Viva Pinata instead of Brutal Legend. I'm not driving back there though for $3 back.
