Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

@jshackles I can't get Enhanced Steam to work anymore. None of its features show up and also when I change the colors in the options clicking save resets it rather than saving. Any ideas?
I think I'm the opposite of people here. I downvote almost everything on Greenlight. Most of this stuff looks pretty poor and I wouldn't even want it for cheap.
downvoting does nothing. Save your time and ignore it completely.
downvoting does nothing. Save your time and ignore it completely.
It does take the game out of your queue so that it won't pop back up again for you to rate.

If you're trying to go through and rate a bunch of games from the Greenlight queue it does help but if you only go to pages for specific games via links (as I suspect most Greenlight votes are being done these days) then it really makes no difference at all.

We can change the colors? How?

edit: Got it.

Bytheway, The extension is really awesome. Thank you, Jshack.

I saw this in the trade thread though:
That said, I do wish the Greenlight people would at least put up their guesstimated price they'd like to sell it for (and yes I know it's subject to negotiation with Valve).

I mean there's normal $5-$10-ish Indie pricing and then there's you have to be fucking kidding me Cladun X2 pricing.
That would definitely be nice to know. There are quite a few that I'd happily buy for a dollar or two (on sale), but wouldn't bother with if they're more than that.
What about a return on the number of open drawings on Steamgifts with a link to search returns for it? Or would that just be unnecessary bloat for most people? I probably wouldn't use said feature myself, just throwing out ideas.
Sounds like a pain to do. SteamGifts (and Steamgamesales) have their own IDs for games that don't seem to be related to those that Steam uses, so you'd have to have a list of SteamID=>SteamGiftsID pairs or pull the ID from SteamGameSales.

Too right! How can I say that I've voted on every game on Greenlight if I don't press the down button?
Well I guess the jokes on me, bought sleeping dogs during the price glitch and the damn thing has crashed on me at least 30 times.
Check the level of detail you have selected, the game is *very* vram hungry.
yeah same I get no sound in the fucking game except sound effects like rain and such, no voices from the actors... Alt+Enter doesn't work??
Yeah I was going to say by those standards I don't think most people here would vote for their favorite game ever.

I didn't say I'd actually pay full price. There's a lot of games I've gotten in bundles that I would not have paid for (i.e. don't really care for) regardless of price, thus in my own mind, I would not have greenlit them. I take the bundle pricing mentality out of the equation and use that as my standard to sort of put things on a more level playing field. If I assumed all were bundle fodder, I'd greenlight almost everything, which I don't think is fair or right to the devs whose games I really do want.

The only thing I consider for Greenlight is whether or not a game looks fun, and in that regard, I will complain that most of these games do a very poor job selling themselves. One or two one minute teasers that show more video production than gameplay aren't going to make me go, "Yeah!" A few videos have had gameplay, with the creator commentating over the game, and I thought that was perfect. (Contrast is an example of this.)

Edit: And look, I'm just going to honest, watching one or two videos is about all the time I have to devote to choosing these games. I can't be out googling each title because they didn't present a lot of information about their games.

I know I am in the minority here by all the VIDS OR GTFO comments I see on Greenlight but I don't even watch the videos at all. With the quantity I've reviewed it just takes too much time. Screenshots are fine for me and a good well written summary/commentary to skim helps loads. Mainly I just make snap decisions though I admit.

To me most indie games are going to be on sale pretty cheap at some point so even without bundles I would probably buy anything that looks remotely interesting at $2-$2.50 or so.

Actually I wouldn't because of bundles, but if bundles didn't exist I would. :p

Agreed. Videos take too long to load, so I'd rather have a good summery and "back of the box" bullet points.

Videos take too long because (in my opinion) they waste too much time on dumb crap before getting into the heart of what the game is. I don't need 45 seconds of a long shot of some soldier walking with giant words jumping out at me saying "EPIC WARFARE", "24 PLAYERS", "SEVENTEEN NATIONS", etc. Show me what the game looks like.

If there's more than one video, I often just skip the first video since it's usually more promotional/commercial than educational and hope the second one opens with showing me what the game will actually look/play like.

And it was working before the latest update? Since the site permissions change, you'll need to re-enable it on your extensions page. If that doesn't work, maybe try to remove it, restart Chrome, and then add it again from the Chrome Web Store.(?)
The Indie Game Bundle Wiki maybe?

Not sure how easy it is to auto grab info from there though since it's not really tied to a Steam ID for a particular game.

There does seem to be a 'buy this game on Steam' link to the game on Steam with the ID in the url on each particular game's wiki page though.
Cross domain scripting would require me to add an "allow" for all of wikia.com to make it work with that site. I'm not sure if people would really understand why I would need that much access.

Youtube in general is a pet peeve of mine. Now everyone and their grandmother can make a video and post it for all the world to see but the amount of people are able to make a good, informative, concise video seems very low.

It's not just for games either. Every time I watch a video where someone spends half of it going 'umm' 'uhh' or spends 3 minutes wiggling a mouse I want to stab someone.

I don't have the patience for it. I'd rather just read some text.

Oh I get it. People put on their tinfoil hats and look for security risks in everything.

When I used to mod a lot of people had issues figuring out what directory to put the files in and how to set it up etc so I started using an installer.
Then people started screaming it was a security risk and they don't run exes etc. Guess they never heard of virus scanners.

Anyway, it would be nice to have as an option to see at a glance what was in a bundle. I know that gets asked a lot. But if it's going to create a whole lotta drama then don't worry about it.

Yeah, my main gripe with vids is they spend more time on cut scenes and story than actual gameplay. Maybe others like the story or cutscenes, but it doesn't mean jack to me. I'd rather see gameplay in vids to see what kind of game it is, what i can expect, whether it looks fun, etc.

As for Greenlight, i don't have time for all that. Just scan. Scary or Zombie gets auto vote. Anything else that sounds halfway entertaining gets a vote. The only stuff I downvote is like stuff with utterly horrible looking graphics.

Yeah I even went back and forth debating adding SteamGameSales.com to the allow list, but I thought the uninitiated public would see "Steam" at the beginning of the URL and probably just think it was an official site or something

With all of these good suggestions (and feeling SOMEWHAT powerless to implement them) I've considered getting my own domain / hosting and adding that page to the extension security, then managing my own lists and features on that site. In the end, this would be easier than continuously adding new domains to the security policy.

On the new site I could host an (easy to parse) list of games and what bundles they're from, price history, DRM lists, etc etc. The only downside is it would cost $$$ and time.

If you had a site up that was either directly editable or were open to taking submissions I'd definitely contribute.

I know as far as DRM and what was in a bundle etc there are sites that we can already pull that info from and compile it. It would still have to be updated from time to time though.

And yeah, there's the whole hosting thing costing money too. It's a lot to think about. I wish Steam had these features by default but some of that stuff like what's in a bundle it's not to their benefit to tell us obviously.

If I were to set up a site like this, it would certainly have to be either "open to submissions" or "allows only certain (pre-approved) people to edit it". If people wouldn't be opposed to affiliate links, then I could add those to the price history stuff it injects. Then if enough people used that feature, it would probably cover the hosting fees / etc. So for example, right now Amazon has Dark Souls for $20. The price history thing could say "Lowest Price: $19.99 on Amazon (Now)" which would be an affiliate link back to Amazon, so if people followed that link and bought it there instead, then the affiliate % would go to supporting the site.

Google says I have about 400 users, so I'm not sure if this is feasible yet. But if there's interest, I'm certainly up for it!

The problem with descriptions and screenshots is that there is no proof they have an actual game. I do want to see gameplay footage. That being said, the marketing fluff some put on isn't really applicable to Greenlight because you don't even know if they have an actual game. Approach it like you want me to sell your game.

I get that point and I think Valve is getting it too. After the first round of Greenlighted games had a bunch that were nowhere ready for release Valve started asking for firm release date estimates before they would Greenlight projects. This is per several developers. Apparently they are now giving priority to projects at or near actual release, as they should.

They also separated out the 'concepts' section from the games section. Any game that is still pretty far off from any sort of release should be in the concepts section. In theory.

All this talk about Greenlight makes me want to restyle it with Enhanced Steam.

It's always really bugged me that there isn't much consistency between it and regular Steam pages. It's also really bugged me that at the top of each Greenlight page is a HUGE banner saying "Help get this game on Steam!"

I'm thinking of dropping the big banner, and adding a sub menu to each page like what is found on the Greenlight homepage (Games, Software, Concepts, Collections, Discussions, etc) and combining that with the Greenlight search box. Would anyone besides me find that useful?

Maybe they should just rename it to Steam Kickstarter and deliver even more unfulfilled promises. ;)
It's not just for games either. Every time I watch a video where someone spends half of it going 'umm' 'uhh' or spends 3 minutes wiggling a mouse I want to stab someone.
Ha, I'm guilty of this. I had a gameplay video where I stopped playing the game, started pacing back and forth with the game character, and rambled about the best strategy for surviving the zombie apocalypse. That's just how my mind works, and I do that shit more for my own enjoyment than anyone elses. Nobody but the computer likes to listen to me ramble about games.

At least I don't eat my breakfast while recording (that's a pet peeve of mine), and I never say "Rate, Comment, and Subscribe," cause I think that's just insulting people's intelligence.
Yeah, my main gripe with vids is they spend more time on cut scenes and story than actual gameplay.
I just need the standard "Let's Play" for five minutes. Play your game, tell me about the mechanics, and let me get going.

The Greenlight page for Legends of Dawn got me to kickstart it.

It'll probably suck or something with my luck but, damn it, if I can't help some hot Croatian woman (and some dudes too, I guess) achieve her dream of making a fantasy RPG, why am I even here?

Also, the game looks like it may have promise.

Dang I was going to try and jump in and say "I already knew what you wanted" and then say that. Why do you have to be so fast???

Anyway, that was my big gripe with the new steam community although I do almost everything exclusively through the application and not the web.

I have to say jshackles that when I wipe my PC and reinstall windows in the upcoming weeks I think I will pass over firefox and make the switch to Chrome. It is literally just your extension making me do this.

I've noticed it. It makes me think that it's only a matter of time until the in app purchase models of mobile games, which is similar but different than the free to play games on Steam, come to indie games on the PC. I don't look forward to it.

Hey, at least Dungeon Defenders threw in all DLC in HIB, right? That's why it continues to be my favorite bundle.

I for one think we should baselessly threaten to sue him before the glitch happens. Anyone interested should PM me with all past transactions, bank account numbers, and social security numbers and I'll get the ball rolling. This is presumably an outrage that he will not honor the mistake!

re: Indie Gala 11 Pricing Mistake

Sorry guys. The keyboard I use to post inadvertently mistyped the discount on my Indie Gala 11 leftover bundles. I was selling them for $270 with a 5% discount, but the keyboard somehow thirded that and then doubled the discount listing it for $162. Since it is the holiday season in Tha Foxxhole, I am busy partying and fornicating. Once I am done with that (as soon as it is too late for you to file any paypal chargeback) I will email you with information as to how you can send the rest of the money and get your keys. Thanks for understanding.
or gamersgate carries it.
that would work. tho i just sort of figured they were losing much money by price errors and were going to go out of business at any moment.

God, I hope not. After the 20% on BC error, I cashed out my 401k and invested it in blue coins. I figure I already made a 20% return!
