CHRISTOPHER DANIELS TALKS ABOUT BRINGING CURRY MAN TO TNA, WHETHER THE ULTIMATE X CABLES CAN HOLD SAMOA JOE, THIS SUNDAY'S PPV AND MORE
by Buck Woodward @ 4:21:00 PM on 3/7/2006

TNA conducted a conference call today with the media to promote the "Destination X" Pay-per-view with Christopher Daniels as the guest.

The conference call began with a discussion of the TNA ratings, as the March 4th edition of the show did a .7 rating with a .8 in males 18-49 and a .9 in males 18-34. The show reached 894,000 viewers. The show is averaging a .8 rating for the last 20 airings.

Here are highlights from the Q&A with Christopher Daniels.

- When asked about who he feels are ready to join himself, Samoa Joe and AJ Styles as the stars of the X Division, Daniels immediately named Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley and Jay Lethal as coming up to their level, saying they just need an opportunity. He also mentioned Austin Aries, Roderick Strong and Sonjay Dutt as earning their time in the spotlight, and again stated they just need an opportunity to come up to the next level.

- Daniels said he was proud to be part of the "little engine that could" roster and being a part of TNA through their growth over the last few years.

- When asked what New Japan talent he would like to see TNA bring in for him to work against, he named Shinsuke Nakamura and Hiroshi Tanahasi, as the top two, since he has already faced Koji Kanemoto and Jushin Liger. Daniels stated he would really like to see Yuji Nagata brought in to TNA.

- When asked about bringing his Curry Man character to TNA, Daniels said "Never say never" and that some in the TNA office are fans of the character. He said there have been a few discussions about it, but wouldn't say how far those discussions have gone.

- Daniels said it is difficult to prepare for the Ultimate X match, since it isn't the kind of match you can practice in advance. He said the big X factor for the bout is whether Samoa Joe can compete in that kind of match, since he has never done so before.

- He likes the stability of being with TNA, and appreciates the time and effort that TNA has put into getting over his character to the fans.

- When asked about Ring Of Honor talent he would like to see TNA bring in, he immediately named Bryan Danielson and Colt Cabana, saying he feels both would fit in well and could bring a lot to the table. He also put over Ricky Reyes and said there are a few others he would like to see get a chance.

- Asked again about this Sunday's PPV match, Daniels said the Ultimate X match adds a level of stunt work to wrestling, something he never prepared for. He said the cables can hold Joe, since they hold two or three people at a time. The question is whether Joe can keep his 280 pounds up just using his hands. Daniels pointed out that he has seen bodybuilders that can't do pull ups because it is so much weight being held up by the small muscles in the hands. Daniels said it isn't about arm strength, it is about grip strength.

- Daniels said that the man that ends Samoa Joe's undefeated streak in TNA will be a big feather in their cap, regardless if it is an X Division performer or a heavyweight.

- Daniels said he likes being able to see people like Christian and other former WWE talent now and have the chance to work regularly with them, as opposed to just seeing then on occasion when he would work for WWE at television tapings in the past.

- Asked about the difference in the way TNA promotes the X Division versus the way WWE promotes the Cruiserweight division, Daniels pointed out that they can perform and produce in TNA, and noted that WWE's cruiserweights are never given that opportunity. He said that WWE is aware of TNA and watching what they are doing, but he doesn't know if that will ever change how WWE just doesn't give opportunities to cruiserweights. Daniels said that while Rey Mysterio might get a chance, the majority of Cruiserweights will never get the chance to main event a PPV, and certainly not against each other.

- Daniels said it doesn't matter what gets a fan to watch TNA for the first time, because once they watch TNA, they will get hooked because it is quality wrestling. Whatever gets them to watch the first time is fine (like watching because a former WWE star or Sting is on the show), because it is the efforts of the whole crew that will keep them watching.

- When asked whether there was any pressure on Daniels, Joe and Styles to live up to their past matches this Sunday, Daniels said they never let the pressure bother them. They simply go to the ring and put on the best match they can.

- When asked what TNA is doing right and wrong, Daniels said the fact that everyone is getting an opportunity, and there is a variety of styles on each show is what TNA is doing right. Daniels wouldn't say TNA is doing anything wrong, but said that personally he would like to see the divisions mixed more. Daniels said he would like to wrestle Christian, Monty Brown, Rhyno and Abyss. He said AJ Styles has been given the chance but he would like to see Samoa Joe, Chris Sabin and other X Division guys have the chance to wrestle the heavyweights.

- When it comes to taking risks in the ring, Daniels said he is always aware of his future and the fact that there is another match the next day or next week he wants to be able to have. He would rather be able to have a long career than blowing everything in one match or in a short period and go down in flames.

- Trying to make a living on independents has worked for him, but pointed out that it is not stable work, and not everyone is lucky enough to get a lot of bookings. He said he was fortunate to be able to have bookings every week, and to now have a deal with TNA.

- When asked about being a leader in the locker room, Daniels said that a lot of wrestlers respect his opinions, and that their respect is important to him and he appreciates it.

- Daniels won't rule out teaming with AJ Styles in the future on a permanent basis, but for now they will be focusing on the singles title.

- Doesn't see any problems with keeping the title belt on the wire X this Sunday, referring to the problems with the "red X" that has occurred in the past. Daniels said that except for the first Ultimate X match, there has never been a problem with keeping the belt up there, the problems have only been when using the "red X".

- When asked about the Lockdown PPV concept of having all the matches in a steel cage, Daniels said it is just like any other show, where you have to try and have a unique match, knowing everyone will have the same parameters to work within.

- Daniels said that TNA has given him the chance to cut promos and do commentary and get his character across with more than just his matches.

- During the period where TNA had no television outlet, Daniels never thought TNA would die, and that people outside the company predicting the end of the organization didn't know what TNA had in the works for the future.

- He is very happy and somewhat surprised with the success of his DVD. Daniels said TNA has really gotten behind it, pushing it with commercials during the television shows.

- When asked about the pros and cons of planning out a match move for move in the back versus calling it in the ring, Daniels said it is just a matter of personal preference for the wrestlers. Daniels said he is in the middle, in that he likes to have an idea in mind for where a match will go, but said it is an asset to be able to adapt to what the crowd is reacting to.

- The episode of "Distraction" for Comedy Central with Daniels in his Curry Man outfit was filmed last October. Daniels said he used the Curry Man character because Comedy Central were interested in characters that would stand out more, rather than just having a group of wrestlers there.

- On the topic of new talent coming in and "taking spots", Daniels said he is not worried about his spot, because he feels there is no one TNA can bring in that can do his character and style better than him. Daniels said he is all for the growth of TNA, and wants to see more talent coming into the company to help it get bigger.

- When asked about the Sting storyline twist that now has "Steve Borden" promising to appear on Sunday, Daniels said he didn't know about it until he saw it on television, so he is wondering where it will go as well.

- When asked what he is looking forward to on the PPV this Sunday, Daniels said he is intrigued by the International Showcase match, and is curious who New Japan Pro Wrestling will be sending in for it.

Thank you for tuning into DemoMan's TNA News. See you next time.

This has been a Demolition Inc Production.

I just popped in the TNA "Best of TNA Title Matches" DVD, which was their first release. I totally forgot how different the product was when it began, in 2002 (3?). Abyss wrestled in the "Gauntlet for the Gold" title match as Prince Justice, fuckin' Toby Keith was there...I can't identify this Scott Steiner lookin' cat in the match, and Malice (a/k/a "The Wall"), who looked like he had already overdosed right before the match.

Not a quality match, but it's nice to think that TNA's been around long enough that it's early days look nostalgic in retrospect. Who would have thought they'd be around for 4 years?

Daniels said it doesn't matter what gets a fan to watch TNA for the first time, because once they watch TNA, they will get hooked because it is quality wrestling. Whatever gets them to watch the first time is fine (like watching because a former WWE star or Sting is on the show), because it is the efforts of the whole crew that will keep them watching.

I watched TNA Impact once... almost all the matches were 3 minute squashes, Jeff Jarrett was boring, and the main event was like "Hey lets throw all our new stars into a match at one time". Oh yea, and then they hyped up Sting a bit.

Maybe if they ever expanded into two hours, I'd watch it a bit more, but an hour is not enough time IMO. It may be quality wrestling, but I wish I could have seen it.
wtf.. did orton attack chavo 2 weeks ago on raw???
If you think the match is any good let me know if I can get it off you somehow. (AIM me in a few hours if possible)

Smackdown/Velocity results are in.

Velocity/Dark Matches:

Match 1
Matt Hardy vs. Chuck Palumbo

Nothing special here, Hardy hits the leg drop and won with the twist of fate. After the match Animal ran out roughed Hardy's feathers.

Winner: Matt Hardy

Match 2
Simon Dean vs. Super Crazy

Dean got on the mic and said he couldn't believe Super Crazy was so lazy that he had to ride a lawnmower to the ring. This was a great match, I miss Nova. Lots of nice chain wrestling. Crazy won with a pseudo pin.

Winner: Super Crazy

Match 3
Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki vs. Jamie Noble and Kid Kash

This was a pretty good match, for a modern Scotty 2 Hotty match. I love Noble and Kash. Jamie was the man in ROH. Lots of cool double team maneuvers from Jamie and Kash. The end came when Scotty was going for the worm and Noble hit him from behind and nailed him with the tiger driver.

Winners: Kash and Noble

Match 4
Tatanka Vs Jobber

See ten years ago. Tatanka looked chubby but hit all his usual moves correctly.

Winner: Tatanka.

Match 5
WWE Tag Team Championship
MNM vs. Paul London and Brian Kendrick

This was an excellent match, everyone needs to watch Velocity this week. London hit a drop-sault on Nitro and landed on Mercury for the cover. It was cool. London had the match won twice but Kendrick or Melina distracted both times the ref. Melina pushed Paul off the top rope when he went for the London Star Press. MNM went for the snap shot but Kendrick hit a super kick on Mercury, and London DDTed Nitro! I really thought they had it there but MNM threw Kendrick out and hit the snap shot on London. 1-2-3

Winners and still champs: MNM

SMACKDOWN

Mark Henry comes down with Daivari and said he was overlooked. Batista overlooked him and he hurt him so bad he had to give up the title. Then Angle overlooked him, Teddy Long overlooked him and Undertaker overlooked him for a title shot. He called Angle out. Angle told Henry that he was a wrestling machine and hit the ring. They brawled. Randy Orton ran down and jumped Angle and they double-teamed him time until Rey Mysterio made the save. Rey ended up getting smashed by Henry. Theodore Long came out and made the main event match up: Henry and Orton vs. Mysterio and Angle.

Match 1
Money in the Bank Qualifier
Finlay vs. Lashley

This one didn't even make it to the ring. Finlay pounded Lashley with the shillelagh and they brawled all the way back stage.

Next out was JBL. He thanked us for all of our get -well cards. He then talked about how Stone Cold Steve Austin left his name out when discussing the greatest Texan wrestlers of all time in his interview with WWE.com. He challenged Stone Cold to a beer-drinking contest at SNME.

Match 2
William Regal vs. Pirate Paul Burchill

Burchill swung out on a big rope. His entrance video is kind of funny. This was the sleeper of the night. The crowd didn't know who to cheer for. Burchill won with the exploder suplex.

Winner: Pirate Paul

Booker T came out with Sharmell, he had a bag of complaint letters about the Boogeyman, and this was some funny stuff. He mentioned Worms Digest and some people of color's
association. Theodore Long told him he could take up all his complaints with the Boogeyman at SNME. Just then, red smoke came out of the bag and the Boogeyman came out. Booker and Sharmell took off through the crowd. Boogeyman dumped out the bag of letters but it was full of worms, which he proceeded to eat.

Backstage we see Gregory Helms sporting an Owen Wilson like nose job. He tells Long his nose was broken during the overseas tour. Theodore says he feels bad and for making Helms defend the Cruiserweight title every week, tonight he will get a break . . . from defending the title, because tonight he will face Chris Benoit!

Match 3
Jillian Hall vs. Kristal

This was a "Diva's Undressed" match. Jillian had an awkward lump near the genital area.

Winner: Kristal

Match 4
Gregory Helms vs. Chris Benoit

This match was fun, lots of chain wrestling and rest holds. Benoit hit a nice German. Helms hit the Eye of the Hurricane. Benoit locked in the sharpshooter but Helms made it to the ropes. Helms tried to leave but Jamie Noble, Paul London, Brian Kendrick and Kid Kash threw him back in the ring. Helms went for a Shining Wizard but Benoit ducked and nailed a huge released German suplex then a top rope headbutt, and then applied the crossface right on Helms broken nose. Helms tapped right away.

Winner: Chris Benoit

They showed an Animal promo on the screen where he said he was the Road Warrior, not Hawk or Heidenreich. He'll have a match with Hardy next week.

Then they showed Lashley and Finlay battle outside. Lashley flipped a car over and it nearly crushed Finlay.

Main Event
Rey Mysterio and Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton and Mark Henry

Great ovation, the crowd was hot for everyone. Angle and Orton in particular have great chemistry. This had another BS finish when Orton slammed Angle into the steps and Henry splashed the ref in the corner. For about 10 seconds, I swear Orton popped out. Daivari got a table and set it up and it broke. He got another table and put Rey on it and when he did the leg fell off. He got a third table and set Rey up for a splash but Angle made the save. Angle tried to suplex Henry off the top rope through the table but Henry pushed him off and then splashed Angle through the table!!!! Taker's music hit and he said he'd face Henry at WM22 in a CASKET MATCH.

End of Smackdown

Undertaker came out and fought Orton and Henry in a handicap match. Taker won with a tombstone on Orton!

Top 5 Positive Reactions:
1. Undertaker
2. Kurt Angle
3. Rey Mysterio
4. Matt Hardy
5. Chris Benoit

Most Heat:
1. Mark Henry
2. Simon Dean
3. JBL
4. Randy Orton
5. Tatanka

Can't wait to watch Smackdown this Friday to see how they present Burchill. Hopefully he will be pushed to the moon.

Welcome to DemoMan's TNA News brought to you by....

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire now out on DVD from Warner Home Video.

PRIMETIME DEBUT OF TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION (TNA) WRESTLING GIVES THURSDAY NIGHT WRESTLING AN ALTERNATIVE

NASHVILLE – Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling will make a move to primetime this April 13 when its TNA Impact program premieres in the Thursday night 9 p.m. ET/PT slot on Spike TV.

The Thursday night primetime timeslot further strengthens TNA's position as the new face of professional wrestling.

Viewers are drawn in by TNA's philosophy of less talk and more action and the technically advance six-sided ring gives TNA a unique feel.

TNA's fresh approach integrates well-known wrestling superstars like Sting, Christian Cage, Jeff Jarrett, and Team 3D with the world's best up-and-coming talent, such as AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, and Monty Brown.

For the first time in his career, wrestling legend Sting will appear at TNA's "Destination X" pay-per-view without his trademark face paint. Appearing as Steve Borden - his real name – Sting will confront Jeff Jarrett, whose group, Planet Jarrett, had been secretly filming Sting and his family at home after Sting announced his retirement from wrestling at the "Final Resolution" pay-per-view two months earlier.

Its cutting-edge "X Division" has won the praise of wrestling enthusiasts around the world for delivering some of the most exciting in-ring action. The "X Division" is unpredictable and famous for high-flying bouts and concept matches such as "Ultimate X," King of the Mountain," and "Six Sides of Steel." The Ultimate X match concept features two crisscrossed steel cables suspended 15 feet above the ring with an "X" hanging over the middle. The first man to navigate to the middle of the cables and dislodge the "X" is the victor.

The uniqueness of TNA was forged with its initial concept more than three years ago when, instead of a regular TV schedule, TNA began hosting weekly pay-per-views. Two years later, TNA began airing on Fox Sports Net (FSN). TNA moved its weekly show to Spike, where it currently airs on Saturdays at 11 p.m., in October 2005 and aired its first monthly pay-per-view that November.

Now the second largest wrestling company in the world, TNA airs a live pay-per-view every month and its programming is seen in over 100 countries.
TNA home videos are distributed to national chains by Navarre Entertainment. The company also has licensing agreements with Midway Games, Toy Biz, Zio Interactive, and Liquid Blue.

An encore of TNA Impact will continue to air at 11 p.m. on Saturdays after the show moves to primetime.

PWTorch.com just put a review of TNA's "Ultimate X Collection" online today. I'm putting the review in as a spoiler for those who have not watched this yet and don't want to be spoiled.

I had seen the matches on “the Ultimate X Collection” when they originally aired on TNA programming, but I decided to purchase this DVD anyway during a recent sale at www.rohwrestling.com. I must admit, I became nostalgic for the old venue in Nashville, from the rowdy fans at the ‘Asylum’ to the cage dancers. By comparison, the Orlando arena feels so … sanitized and G-rated. While I remembered all of these matches fondly… I didn’t remember them being so short!

It’s hard to believe that some of these matches took place 2 and a half years ago! This is truly a different era of TNA wrestling, as they reminded us to ‘tune in every Wednesday night’ and to check out www.nwatna.com, a Website that no longer exists.

The DVD opened with a nice montage of clips from top X Division wrestlers, then Mike Tenay & Don West introduced the program, as they talked about the history of the division and the creation of Ultimate X.

(1) Michael Shane defeats Frankie Kazarian and Chris Sabin in a three-way to win Ultimate X at 9:40. (Aug. 20, 2003). I liked that the original commentary from this era was left in place, and I like that the date of the show appeared in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. If you remember this match being longer than this, you are right… TNA has cut the belt falling to the mat, which happened twice in this match. It’s weird, though, because, with the original commentary, the announcers acknowledge the belt falling. (NOTE: Keller had this match listed at 13:30 in his original report of this match.)

The match began, and Sabin hit an enziguri on Kazarian, and Sabin immediately went to the cable, but Shane stopped him. Shane hit a twisting neckbreaker on Sabin. Kazarian his a nice kick to the side of Shane’s head. Shane climbed on the cable, and Sabin cut him off; Shane hit a nice hurricanrana on Sabin. At 3:00, Sabin hit a double springboard dropkick on Shane and Kazarian as those two fought on the cable. Sabin got a chair and he nailed both of his opponents with it. Kazarian hit a chairshot on Sabin’s face.

Sabin hit a wind-up uranage on the open chair, completely destroying it! At 5:00, Michael Shane stood up, and he was bleeding heavily. Sabin punched at the open wound on Shane’s face! (A clip in the action here, as the belt is placed back on the cables.) Kazarian hit a jumping piledriver on Sabin. A minute later, Sabin and Shane were fighting while both hanging to the cables, and Sabin hit an awesome powerbomb on Shane, as they both crashed to the mat. (Again, we have a cut in the action, because the belt fell again.)

Shane was out on the floor, bleeding heavily, and Don West said, “There is no way Michael Shane can get back in this match, he’s too bloody.” Kazarian and Sabin brawled in the ring, then they brawled hanging from the cables, near the title belt. Out of nowhere, Shane climbed to the center and snatched the belt, falling to the mat for the win. Excellent match. I really didn’t like the edits, though.

What Wade Keller said, Torch #773: Lots of innovative spots with the cables that haven’t been done before. The Ultimate X concept is a great new gimmick match. The effort by the three wrestlers in the match was just awesome.

(2) Chris Sabin defeats Michael Shane and Low Ki and Christopher Daniels to win Ultimate X at 15:00. (Jan. 7, 2004). The graphic in the lower corner accidentally read “Nosawa vs. Juventud” before this match began. The crowd heartily booed Shane. All four brawled immediately with Daniels fighting Low Ki and Shane battling Sabin. In a cool spot, Shane and Sabin tied Daniels in the ropes, allowing Ki to hit a hard, unprotected kick on Daniels’ chest. Shane hit a chairshot on Sabin in the ring, and they continued to brawl.

Daniels and Ki traded chops on the ring apron. Daniels tried to springboard off the ropes and grab the title, but he couldn’t reach it. Daniels climbed along the cable, but Shane hit him with a chairshot at 4:30. Shane then climbed on the cable, but Daniels cut him off, so Shane hit a hurricanrana onto Daniels. In an awesome spot, Daniels placed a chair in the center of the ring and tried to leap up, off the chair, to grab the title; meanwhile Low Ki did a springboard off the ropes and NAILED Daniels with a spin kick to the chest at 6:00. This looks great on tape, and the crowd went nuts!

Sabin hit an enziguri on Ki. Ki and Daniels traded chops, then they briefly teamed up to beat up Shane. Ki applied a Dragon Sleeper on Daniels as they fought on the cables! Shane Douglas ran to ringside with a ladder. Elix Skipper ran to ringside, and he chased Douglas to the back. Shane grabbed the ladder, and he rammed it at his opponents. Shane hit a superkick on Low Ki, as Ki was going for a cartwheel kick. Daniels. The ladder was set up in the ring, and Daniels brawled with Shane on the ladder, until Daniels hit an STO, and the both crashed to the mat.

Low Ki hit a German Suplex off the ladder on Sabin at 11:30. Daniels hit the Best Moonsault Ever on Low Ki. Daniels picked up Shane and crotched him on the ladder, and all four men were down. Daniels and Ki fought on the ladder, but Shane tipped the ladder over, and both Daniels & Ki fell all the way to the floor. Shane tried to climb the ladder, but the Black Shirt Security (remember them?) confiscated the ladder! Shane went to the top turnbuckle to grab the cable. However, Sabin pushed Shane off the top-rope, and Shane fell backward, through a table set up on the floor! Sabin then pulled himself along the cable to the title belt and pulled it down to win the match. Excellent match, non-stop action, and the standout match on this DVD.

What Wade Keller said, Torch #794: Good match, but not at the level of the first Ultimate X match.

The next seven matches are from the X Cup tournament, which originally aired on Sept. 3, 2003. (The date of this tournament is not listed on the DVD, however.)

(3) Round 1: Juventud Guerrera defeats Nosawa at 4:31. Wow, was this match really this short when it first aired? I guess so! Juvy wore white pants; Nosawa wore black shiny pants. They traded quick reversals, and Juvy hit a spin kick to the face, then a springboard press to the floor. Juventud hit some chops on the floor. The crowd is loudly behind Juventud here. Nosawa fought back with a standing side kick, then a dropkick on the knee.

Juventud hit a pumphandle face plant at 3:00. Nosawa hit a basement dropkick for a nearfall. Juventud picked up Nosawa and nailed the Juvy Driver/spinning sitdown piledriver. Juventud then nailed a top-rope 450 Splash for the pin. A sprint with lots of action in this short match!

(4) Round 1: Teddy Hart defeats Jonny Storm at 2:50. Wow, this was short too. Teddy wore silver shorts, and he has long white string in his hair; he just looks eccentric. Storm wore a black & blue singlet, and he had long black hair at the time. (Today he is bald.) This match also started with some great quick action, and Storm hit a springboard summersault dive to the floor. In the ring, Hart hit a stunner and he applied a Fujiwara Armbar.

Hart hit a top-rope Asai Moonsault to the floor on Storm, drawing a “holy sh—“ chant. In the ring, Storm hit a pumphandle sitdown powerbomb, but he missed a moonsault. Hart hit a Spike DDT, then a Shooting Star Press for the pin. Like the prior match, this was a non-stop sprint.

(5) Round 1: Chris Sabin defeats Jerry Lynn at 3:30. Ok, this is now absurd at how short these matches are! Sabin jumped Lynn to begin the match. Lynn nailed some stiff forearms, then a powerbomb off the ropes for a nearfall. Tenay called Sabin a younger version of Lynn. Sabin hit a hotshot on Lynn’s throat off the ropes. Lynn hit a TKO/spinning stunner for a nearfall, but Sabin got a foot on the bottom rope.

Cyrus (I loved ECW-era Don Callus!) came out of the back and yelled at Lynn. He told Lynn that if he touched the referee, Lynn would be fired. This distraction allowed Sabin to hit a low blow and get a rollup for the pin.

(6) Round 1: Frankie Kazarian defeats Michael Shane at 3:24. I’m now downright annoyed at the quick matches; it’s just not realistic that these matches would be this short. Kazarian hit an armdrag and a nice dropkick in the corner, then a Catapult Basement Dropkick. Shane hit some stomps and a backbreaker over his knee for a nearfall. Kazarian hit a powerslam for a nearfall. Shane hit an enziguri for a nearfall. Shane went for a powerbomb, but Kazarian reversed it into a hurricanrana for the rollup and the pin.

(7) Round 2: Juventud Guerrera defeats Teddy Hart at 9:58. Tenay said this is a first-time match. They opened with some fast & furious reversals. Hart applied a Fujiwara Armbar, then hit a Russian Legsweep. After two mat-based moves, West, for whatever reason, says this looks like “Olympic mat wrestling.” What? Anyhow, Juvy hit a nice headscissors takedown, and the crowd is loudly behind him. Hart hit a reverse hurricanrana to the floor. Hart then hit a moonsault off the guardrail onto Juvy on the floor. Cool.

Juvy hit some chops on the floor, then a hurricanrana off the ropes they re-entered the ring for a nearfall. Juvy hit a pumphandle faceplant for a nearfall. Hart fired back with a modified Spike Piledriver, a corkscrew sault for a believable nearfall at 6:00, and an Asai Moonsault to the floor, and the crowd chanted, “holy sh--!” Juvy hit a basement dropkick to the face, but he missed a People’s Elbow. Juvy hit a uranage for a nearfall.

Hart came back with a Tornado DDT for a nearfall at 9:00. He nailed a Shooting Star Press, but he clutched his left knee and couldn’t make the cover. Guerrera hit a Juvy Driver, then a second-rope Juvy Driver, for the pin. Enjoyable, chaotic high-action spotfest.

(8) Round 2: Chris Sabin defeats Frankie Kazarian at 7:31. They started fighting immediately, and Kazarian hit three nice dropkicks. Sabin hit a running doubleknees to the chest in the corner. Kazarian nailed a DDT on the ring apron, then he hit a sunset flip into a powerbomb off the apron to the floor! Ouch. In the ring, Sabin hit a Tiger/doublearm suplex for a nearfall at 3:30, and he planted his knee in Kazarian’s back. Sabin applied a Japanese Stranglehold.

Kazarian applied a Front Guillotine Choke in the ropes, then he hit the Wave of the Future/spinning faceplant for a nearfall. Sabin hit his “Back to the Future”/modified musclebuster for a nearfall. Kazarian hit a top-rope One-man Spanish Fly/belly-to-belly suplex, and they both were down at 7:00. Kazarian sat on Sabin’s shoulders, and Kazarian went for a Victory Roll; however, Sabin rolled through the move and got the pin. Good match for the time given.

(9) Finals: Chris Sabin defeats Juventud Guerrera at 14:45 to win the tournament. West & Tenay introduced this match, with West calling it the top X Division Match of the year. A big trophy for the winner was in the center of the ring. The match began, and they traded slaps to the face, then some quick offense and a standoff. Juvy hit a headscissors takedown and some chops. Sabin dropped Juvy awkwardly on his neck & shoulder, then Sabin nailed an enziguri as Juvy got up! Juvy fought back with a spin heel kick, and they fought briefly on the floor.

Back in the ring, Sabin hit a nice overhead wheelbarrow suplex for a nearfall at 5:00. Juvy nailed a basement dropkick to the face, then an Electric Chair with a bridge for a nearfall. They traded an extended series of rollups, and they both collapsed in exhaustion, and the crowd was hot! They escaped each other’s finishers, and Juvy hit a bulldog, and they were both down at 9:30. Juvy hit a springboard missile dropkick. Sabin hit a Soilent Green, placing Juvy on his shoulder, then spinning him off into a faceplant.

Juvy NAILED a Tiger Driver, dropping Sabin hard on the top of his head at 11:30 (and it sure didn’t look like Juvy protected him much). Sabin hit a DDT for a nearfall. Sabin went for a move off the ropes, but Juvy hit a dropkick to the face. Sabin fought back and hit a top-rope superplex. Juvy nailed a Juvy Driver and a 450 Splash for a believable nearfall, but Sabin got a foot on the ropes! Sabin then got a fisherman’s buster for the pin. Wow, that really was an excellent match.

What Wade Keller said, Torch #775: The action was non-stop and of high quality, but the finishes came unrealistically quickly. The finals produced the match of the week on television, as Sabin pinned Juventud in a four-star, 15-minute match.

(10) Amazing Red defeats Frankie Kazarian and Petey Williams and Jerry Lynn and Elix Skipper and Nosawa in an elimination match at 12:08. (March 24, 2004). This was Red’s first match in five months, the announcers said. Kazarian and Skipper started and traded some nice quick offense. Nosawa entered, and he hit a Shining Wizard on Lynn. Lynn hit a spinning backbreaker on Petey. Red tagged in, and he hit a Tornado DDT on Petey for a nearfall at 3:00. Lynn hit a basement dropkick to Nosawa’s face for a nearfall. Elix hit a top-rope guillotine legdrop on Petey, who was lying across the top rope.

Red hit a dive to the floor on Elix & Kazarian. Meanwhile, Lynn nailed a cradle piledriver on Nosawa to pin him at 5:30. Elix walked on the top rope and hit a headscissors takedown on Kazarian. Petey pulled Red off of a pin attempt, and the announcers questioned why Petey would save someone from getting eliminated. Kazarian pinned Skipper at 7:20; the cameras missed the action, though. Red hit a double dropkick on Petey & Kazarian. Lynn hit a TKO/spinning stunner on Petey, then he nailed a Kryptonite Krunch on Kazarian for a believable nearfall.

Kazarian blocked a sunset flip attempt, sat down on Lynn, grabbed Petey’s hands for leverage, and Kazarian pinned Lynn at 9:24, and only three remained! Petey hit a DDT on Red for a nearfall, then a Canadian Destroyer. The heels worked together in beating up Red. Out of nowhere, Kazarian turned on Petey and hit the Wave of the Future/spinning face plant, to pin Petey Williams at 11:11.

It was now down to just Kazarian vs. Red. Red nailed a Code Red/sudden swinging sunset flip for a believable nearfall. Red then hit the Red Star Press/standing shooting star, to get the pin.

What Wade Keller said, Torch #803: Nice spots, but too short to be a standout.

Final thoughts: DVD runs 1 hour, 52 minutes… I was a bit disappointed in the short running length of this DVD, and I just didn’t recall all those first-round matches being so short.

Even though this is a shorter disc, and it is a bit more expensive than most ($24.95 at www.tnawrestling.com or www.rohwrestling.com), it is recommended viewing. I loved the second Ultimate X match, and that is the best match here. The Sabin-Juventud match also is a standout match, and is second-best here. While Wade loved the first Ultimate X match… I think part of the reason it got such a high rating is that it was the first-ever of its kind. Compared to other Ultimate X matches, it is still quite good, but not the standout it initially appeared to be. I really think TNA’s decision to cut four minutes of action hurt the quality of the match here.

If you are new to TNA, since they debuted in Orlando, or since they first appeared on Spike TV, and you never got to see one of their weekly shows from Nashville, this is highly recommended. The X Division guys put on some great matches, and this is a nice highlight of the positives about TNA’s first two years.

Obviously, the disappointments to me are the visible cuts in the first Ultimate X match and the shorter-than-I-remembered opening matches of the tournament.

Thank you for tuning into DemoMan's TNA News. See you next time.

This has been a Demolition Inc. Production

Whomever wrote this press release needs to double check their facts as TNA's first monthly PPV was in November 2004 with "Victory Road" which featured Jeff Jarrett defending the NWA World Title against Jeff Hardy.
Is the show still going to be one hour?
Yes. So, you'll still see 4 squash matches per show. Goody.

I'm just glad TNA is nice enough to provide spanish language commentary. Not because I speak spanish, but because listening to an hour of Don West makes me contemplate suicide.

Fixed your post.

I just saw Brian Knobbs (formerly of the Nasty Boys) on Leno. They were doing this bit called Pitch to America where people try to sell their idea for a TV show. Knobbs was pitching his version of a judge/courtroom show called "Trailer Court Justice". I don't know what he was saying, he was just screaming the whole time. The funny part is that some fool actually bought it.

Triple H is supposed to be on Conan O'Brien Thursday night.

Possible Wrestlemania spoiler.

That would be a terrible idea...
...especially since you know there's no way RVD would win the title. And if you're taking an ECW show and putting over a guy who was never in ECW, over the guy who a lot of people feel is synonymous with ECW and had some of its most exciting matches... well, way to shit all over ECW some more Vince.

And while the song on its own may be good, it doesn't fit Orton at all, unlike the Mercy Drive song which I thought was a pretty good fit for Orton's gimmick.

Very good point about the song not fitting Orton, I really didn't think about it that way. I was just like Killswitch Engage is awesome and that song kicks ass. But yea, I didn't even know it changed and was like who the hell is coming out now. I didn't even think of Orton. It's probably going to take a while to attach him to it since he had the other song for so long and this new one is a totally different style of music.

If they bring back the ECW title, or the TV title, it'd be interesting, but they wouldn't bring in *another* title the way so many of the current belts mean jack shit. So does this mean we'll see Triple H and RVD headline One Night Stand? Count my ass out of buying that bullshit.

Fully agreed. He doesn't belong anywhere near that event.

He deserves the belt but certainly not with Trips in the main event... Unless of course some other alumni could have the belt at the time, but I don't see who could possibly fit that role?

won't happen. That would mean 5 title changes in 6 months, and even WWE creative is not dumb enough to have this happen.

I love how Tatanka and Matt Hardy both have matches on Velocity instead of Smackdown when I put them on my fantasy team... blargh, I knew I was gonna take a hit this week, oh well.

Oh, and it seems WWE took my advice! Or something to that nature regarding my Wrestlemania suggestions...

Taker vs Henry in a casket match, maybe we can bury Henry for good.

I think that with WWE.. the only thing that's certain is that nothing is certain.

Never say never.

Only to "unbury" him in a month for an exciting fued with Boogeyman that we all know will set PPV buyrates.

From a recent interview with AJ Styles:

James admits to being a video game fan and asks AJ, as a fellow video game addict, which games he’s enjoying right now. AJ says he’s been playing Fight Night: Round 3 for XBOX 360 and Madden 2005 -- he’s not crazy about Madden 2006. He loves playing almost all the games for Sega Dreamcast and calls it one of the most underrated systems that ever came out. He tries not to neglect any of his systems; he has them all. Him and James reminisce about the glory days of Atari and put over Asteroids, Combat, and Missile Command as great games. "And just for the record," AJ proclaims, "the best wrestling games ever made were for the Nintendo 64, until 2007 when TNA’s game comes out." Him and a couple of TNA guys are going to sit down with the Midway guys soon and throw some ideas back and forth. AJ stresses how important it is for the game to have good controls and be easy to play, like the Nintendo 64 games. He doesn’t like all the "kick and punch [wrestling] games" that are out now.

I may not like the man for various reasons, but I will never deny his talent in the ring. Now, I can also not deny that he has *fabulous* taste in games. I hope that he gets a lot of input in the direction of the TNA game.

His recognition of N64 wrestling games gives him credibility. I hope he gets input as well.

Some wrestling is on Univision right now. Not sure what the name of it is.

It appears to be some sort of variety show called Muévete. Looks like the wrestling was a one shot deal.

AJ should tell Midway to look at the AKI games. :D

TNA IMPACT STARTS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gotta say, I still always am amazed when I see a running/standing shooting star press from someone. That one Dutt did was damn cool.

That was pretty damned impressive. I certainly wasn't expecting that.

That match was amazing... 10/10. Gotta hand it the new generation of top X-Division guys...

I've gotta say, the one thing that keeps me coming back to TNA is the X-Division. I could care less about all the burnt out WWF/WWE stars (except Christian! Gotta love him being on the top for once!), but seeing all these young guys do insane stuff, it's awesome.

Yep. Almost like the glory days of the crusierweight division in WCW.
