TOOL 10,000 Days--Album Titles Meaning--Tour dates--Lyrics--Discuss

Anyone else going to try and go to the show in Chicago? I'm from SW Ohio but it looks like this is the closest show. Do you think the tickets will sell out in minutes?

considering they haven't played in about 4/5 years, i would assume theyll be sold out. I wouldn't risk it, is what i'm trying to say : /

I went to the first show they played when Lateralus came out on May 13, 2001 at the Tabernacle in Atlanta. It's pretty funny because tickets sold out in like 3 minutes according to the website and I got frustrated because I called Ticketmaster in GA and couldn't get through. I finally called the Ticketmaster in New Mexico, got through, and ordered 2 tickets (one for me and one for my friend).

Well, my friend backs out, and I'm left with a ticket. I pull into the Tabernacle parking lot about 4 hours before the show is supposed to start (8PM) and the line is wrapping around the entirety of the venue. I thought to myself, geez, this is crazy. I assumed everyone had tickets to the show. I saw a dirty goth laying on top of the car next to mine, and I since I had an extra ticket i said to the dirty goth, "Hey, do any of y'all need a ticket?" The dirty goth's eyes lit up like an emo kid seeing a soft pillow and some kleenex and said, "Yeah, how much?" Again, I assumed everyone had tickets. I told him I just wanted to get my money back, so $50. He emphatically said, "YES!" and paid me. I found out later counterfeit tickets were selling for $500.

Well, I step in to line and wait . . . and wait . . . and wait. There were about 8,000 people there with tickets. The Tabernacle holds ~2,000 (if that much). That means ~6,000 had COUNTERFEIT tickets. It was one of the craziest things I've ever seen. People drove from all over the country to see the show and got denied. Once I got to the front I gave the guy my ticket, walked in and almost no one was inside (compared to the outside). The show finally starts at 11:00 PM. They open up with 'The Grudge', first time they ever played it live, and it was amazing. I never heard anything like it before. They then segued directly into stinkfist and the show was on. Great shit.
Wow!! :applause:

That was so friggin awesome I have to wonder if that was planned. Either way it was friggin awesome!
Oh, to be put in a headlock and ridden by MJK!!! Please make my wish come true!!!:bouncy:

Shit. I just realized that Junior Brown is in Chicago the same night as the Tool show. What am I to do?! Decisions, decisions...

I wanted to go to the chicago show but i graduate college on that day. As for the Maynard tackle I saw that too. He laid on him the entire song. That is hilarious.

Found the lyrics to the most accurateness I could find them to:

Vicarious

Eye on the the TV
'Cause tragedy thrills me
Whatever flavor it happens to be, like...
"Killed by the husband"
"Drowned by the ocean"
"Shot by his own son"
"She used a poison
in his tea...kissed him goodbye"
THAT'S my kind of story
It's no fun 'til someone dies

Don't look at me like
I am a monster
Frown out your one face
But with the other
Stare like a junkie
Into the TV
Stare like a zombie

While the mother holds her child
Watches him die
Hands to the sky crying,
"Why, oh why?"

Cause I need to watch things die... from a distance
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
YOU ALL NEED IT TOO, DON'T LIE

Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit it?
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing
Neither the brave nor bold
ARE RIGHT as the story's told
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing

I need to watch things die... from a good safe distance
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
You all feel the same, so...

Why can't we just admit it?

Blood like rain falling down
DRUM ON brave and proud

Part vampire
Part warrior
Carnivore and Voyuer
Stare at the TRANSMITTAL
Sing to the death rattle

La, la, la, la, la, la-la-lie (x4)

Credulous at best
Your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men
But pull your head on out
YOUR HEAD PLEASE, and give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again

The universe is hostile, so impersonal
Devour to survive... so it is, so it's always been

We all feed on tragedy
It's like blood to a vampire

Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
Much better you than I

Jambi

Here from the king's mountain view
Here from the wild dream come true
Feast like a sultan I do
On treasures and flesh, never few.

But I, I would wish it all away
If I thought I'd Lose you just one day

The devil with his had me down
In love with the dark side I'd found.
Dabble in all the way down
Up to my neck so to drown.

But you changed that all for me
Lifted me up, turned me round
So I,
I,
I,
I,

I would
I would
I would
Wish this all away

Prayed like a father dusk to dawn
Beg like a hooker all night long
Tempted the devil with my song
And got what I wanted all along

But I
And I would
If I could
And I would

Wish it away
Wish it away
Wish it all away
Wanna wish it all away
No pressure could hold sway
Or just a fine line
Kneeling away, my Santa

So if I could I'd wish it all away
If I thought tomorrow, They'd take you away
You're my peace of mind, my home
I said I'm just trying to hold on
One more day

Dim my eyes
Dim my eyes

Dim my eyes if they should compromise
Or fall from what sin need you find within
I might as well be gone

Shine on forever
Shine on benevolent sun

Shine down upon the broken
Shine until the two become one

Shine on forever
Shine on benevolent sun

Shine on upon the severed
Shine until the two become one

Divided I'm withering away
Divided I wither away

Shine on upon the many, light our way
Benevolent sun

Breathe in union
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
So as one survive
Honor the day and season

Silence leech, and SAVE your poison
Silence leech, and stay out of my way

Wings for Marie (Part 1)

You believed
You believed in moments not conceived
You believed in me

A patient in spirit
Uncompromise
Without us in your heart
A light in your eyes that
Ends all lies

Vacant, broken
Fell at the hands of
Those moments that I wouldn’t see
Cause you, you pray for me too
What have I done to be a son to an angel
What have I done to be worthy

Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescence
Difficult to see with this light
Please forgive this selfish question, but
What am I to say to all these ghouls tonight
She never told a lie
Well might of told a lie
But never lived one
Didn’t have a life
Didn’t have a life
But surely saved one
Alright, now it’s time for us to let you go

-------------------------------------------------------

10,000 Days (Part 2)

listen to the tales and romanticize
how we follow the path of the hero

[and post?] about the day when the rivers overrun
how we rise to the height of our halo

listen to the tales as we irrationalize
Our way into the arms of the savior
failing all the trials and the tribulations

none of us have actually been there
not like you

the ignorant fit within the congregation
gather around spewing sympathy
spare me

none of them could even hold a candle up to you
blinded by choices hypocrites
wont see

but nothing but the collective juries
who could deny you were the one who illuminated
your little piece of the divine

this little light of mine
the gift you passed on to me
i'm gonna let it shine to guide you safely on your way

your way home

what are they going to do when the light goes down
without you you to guide them all to zion?
what are they gonna do when the rivers overrun
other than tremble incessantly ?

high is the way
but our eyes are upon the ground
you were the light and the way
they'll only read about
I only pray heaven knows
when to lift you out

10000 days in the fire is long enough
you're going home

you're the only one who can hold your head up high
shake your fist at the gates sayin'
"i have come home now fetch me the spirit, the son and the father,
tell them their pillar of faith has ascended

"its time now, my time now, give me my, give me my wings!"

"give me my, give me my, give me my, give me my, give me my wings...."

you are the light, the way, that they will only read about

set as i am in my ways and my arrogance
burning [?] upon the believers
you were my witness, my eyes, my evidence
judith marie, unconditional one

daylight dims leaving cool flourescence
difficult to see you in this light
please forgive this bold suggestion
should you see your maker's face tonight
look him in the eye
look him in the eye and tell him
never lived a lie, never took a life
would surely save one
and in the hour [?]
its time for you to bring me home

### End of Lost Keys ###
(patient breathing oddly in background)
Nurse: excuse me Doctor, if you have a moment.
Doctor: a moment?
Doctor: whats the question?
Nurse: more of a situation, a gentleman in exam 3.
Doctor: whats the problem?
Nurse: that is the problem, we're not sure.

Until I read your response I had never heard of Butch Walker. Till I read your response I had not Googled Butch Walker. Till your response I had not turned down my speakers to avoid hearing another awful moment of Butch Walker.

Man im so fucking pissed. I got on there AT 11 and pressed refresh over and over until they went on sale. When I tried to order it said none were availiable. How fucking gay. How in the hell can something sell out in literally ONE second?? I guess Im going to try to get tickets to the Minnesota show even though its almost 12 hours away compared to the 5 it would have been if i could have just went to Chicago. This is ridicilous.......

Call New Mexico's ticketmaster. I'm not kidding. read my post a page back. Try Ticketmaster's all over the country. You might get one.

Yeah this is so dumb I did the same thing for MN (refresh, refresh, refresh until they went onsale) what do you know SOLD OUT IN ONE SECOND! this really pisses me off, it almost makes me like Tool less.. why in the hell are they only doing like 15 shows in America after they havent toured in 4-5 years... why do they go to Europe for 25+ shows? Ridicilous. I'm staring to think the people at Ticketmaster are scalping these themselves... how do I not get them when i was on the page the second they went on sale BOTH times and didnt get one.. yet they are on ebay selling for $700+ BEFORE they went on sale.

With the high profile nature of these events, I'm surprised you got another region's Ticketmaster to sell them to you. Usually they're instructed to not sell tickets for high profile events outside of their region, with the threat of losing their jobs. I'd imagine that wasn't the case here, but if there's any other Tool shows going on sale soon you might want to keep that in mind if you're told that they can't sell you the tickets.
how do I not get them when i was on the page the second they went on sale BOTH times and didnt get one.. yet they are on ebay selling for $700+ BEFORE they went on sale.
I'd imagine there was a presale code where the released a certain number of tickets, and you could enter this code to buy tickets, starting Thursday morning. I know that they have these codes for most of the WWE non-house shows, and they also had one for Indians tickets at the beginning of the season. I don't see why Tool would be much different.

Thats ok. Like me i really dont understand what the obsession with rap music comes from. I think it all sucks and theres hardly any skill involved. Really most music these days i dont like. But hey thats probably what kids these days will say aboubt the music in the next generation. I am part of this generation btw.
Have never liked Tool. Don't see what the big deal is? Never liked that whole Alt Rock/Pink Floyd vibe.
What song(s) have you actually heard from Tool? What music do you listen to instead? The reason Tool is a big deal is because its fans realize how talented and artistic the 4-man group actually is. They can go through a stretch of 14-15 years without majorly changing their sound, while alternatively using new instruments, riffs, and beats to expand their reach as musicians. But I guess if you're not into all that then that's cool too.

The CD grows and grows on me everday. I have to admit when I first got it, intial thought "This blows ass". I didn't like how they had taken alot of tracks and sort of 'wasted' them IMO. Than I really listened to it at our TOOLARMY meeting in Chicago and figured out the lyrics and man this album is extremely deep. I think once again its like a book and telling a story to us. Man I cant wait for the next Tool album hahahha.

Oh and just for the record originally the Grudge scream gave me goose bumps, but Vicariously I, Live while the WHOLE WORLD DIES! MUCH BETTER YOU THAN I gives me goose bumps now. fucking awesome CANT WAIT till the chicago show i'll be there!

Couldn't agree more Maynard.
I see that you seem to be the official CAG Toolmeister around here. So, I have a question for you. During the Lateralus tour, one of the ladies I worked with's husband was one of the bus drivers. He hooked me up with tickets at three shows, the highlight being 3rd row center in Cincy.
After the tour was over, he gave me two autographed promo pix of the band.
So, I know that alot of celebrities just have ghost signers.
If I sent you a scan, do you think you could tell me if it looks like the real deal or not ?

Unfortunately for me, Chicago is the closest they're coming to me. I guess I'll have to wait for them to get back from Europe. But, this album is seriously growing on me, I can't wait to have the album w/artwork.

Absolutely I have a personal photograph with the band and made Maynard sign it and i told him to write Nick told me to do this. He smiled at the idea...

what is it tough guy?

dude you dont have to be a dick about, it's not like a huge ass secret as to what the song symbolizes. just by reading the lyrics gives you a jist about. It's not as vague as most Tool songs, that's all im saying, jeez..It's not like you're doing a great service by giving hints, when it's pretty obvious what the jist of the song is about. it's as simple as looking at wikipedia. And with that said there's probably multiple meanings to thi song, not just one basic one.
