Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - OUT NOW - Trophy Patch Released!

I just did the coolest thing I've ever done in a game...

Its gonna be hard to explain.

There is this long wall =======

About 3-4 feet high, so had to crouch behind it.

I was hiding on one side and the guy was hiding on the other, length wise like this. x = enemy o = me.

x=======o

So we were both shooting at each other and it was going nowhere. So I jumped over the cover (but jumped on the wall since you cant jump over a 15 foot length wall) and ran across the wall to him, he was still hiding in cover.

I jumped over him right when he was going for a cover fire and jumped perfectly behind him and then jumped on his back, wrestled him to his knees then snapped his neck. Then a guy through a grenade right where I did this so I had to jump over this other wall and hide behind it right when the grenade blew. AWESOME!

And all the while looking amazing and smooth.
Big thumbs up from me.
Love the shadows, love the water making you wet.
Love the surround sound on this one.
yea though i suck at the game, I gotta say this is the first time I've ever seen anybody's clothing change reasonably after being dipped in water in a game. Props to the dev team for that :applause:

Well, I have to say I enjoyed the game more than I expected, but it still wasn't very compelling.

First off, the graphics were nice, but nowhere near "best game graphics ever!'. Drake (is he Drake?) looks really well done. I love the random animations when using cover and the wet clothes character model. The environments though really took me out of the game. They seemed as if they were ripped straight out of Kameo or Rachet and Clank. They were very cartoony, which didn't contrast well with Drake's realistic character model. The bad guys character model were also bad and cartoony. The water effects are also really "dry". The shadows are great in the game though.

Now, for the gameplay; it feels like Gears of War and Tomb Raider combined.

Except, the Gears section is really boring (and Tomb Raider is always boring).

The cover system, while not as smooth as Gears, was still very solid.

I liked the "melee" system in the game, I would just hope for more combos to be unlocked as you progress. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to sneak up on enemies and break their necks.

The gun battles were really ho-hum (dumb AI shooting crappy-sounding pistols at you ever 10 seconds doesn't pump my adrenaline) and the lack of rumble really brought the excitement down. I guess after years of FPS on the Xblockz, I am used to some (force) feedback when I pull a trigger.

Speaking of triggers, what genius though to put aiming on the L1 and shooting on R1?

These would have felt much more natural on the L2 and R2, respectively. I didn't see an option for button configuration either. I hope that is a demo only problem, and the option will be there in the retail copy of the game.

I have to agree with Myke's sentiments earlier about the story (or rather the lack of). They're filiming a TV show, surprisingly get shot out of the air, and yet in the next screen, he's expecting the guys? The voice quips they had Drake saying were pretty corny too, ("This is so not cool!")

All in all, it was better than I expected (I hate Tomb Raider games), but I just can't see how someone could say it's their game of the year. I may pick it up as a rental, seems like it might entertain for a weekend.

November 22ND for the UK demo and NO mention of asia.

fucking inexcusable.

No sale for me.

Ratchet & Clank, Time Crisis and Assassin's Creed.

NDog need to get their shit together, that's ridiculous.

It doesn't come out in the UK until December anyway. The US didn't get the demo until 12 days before release, I don't see why the UK would get it earlier than that.

They should have announced that it would be region-coded so people could have avoided wasting their time downloading it.

If somebody shot me out of the air, I would probably be a little bit cautious about guys comin after me too lol. It's not improbable that the same guys who shot the anti aircraft shots also saw Drake and his lady friend parachute out and survive.

For me, L1 + R1 feel the most natural to me when holding the controller firmly with a confident feel on the joysticks. I've mentioned this before I think in the Motorstorm thread, but if I have to use the L2 + R2 buttons constantly, I'd have to use my index fingers to brace the controller on the front face against my palm, otherwise it'll feel like I'm trying to squeeze the controller out of my hands. Since the L1 + R1 buttons push downward on top of the controller that's not a problem there. I wonder if it's just me or do other people feel the same way?

Yeah. same with shooter, people always want to use th r2/l2 buttons. But the L1/R1 buttons are faster to click, and don't have the awkward feel you mentioned.

I think the whole issue could be solved by making L2/R2 concave instead of convex... I may try and mod my controller, after I get a DS3.

Played the demo last night and loved it. Can't wait for the full game everything else on my backlog gets bumped back except for CoD4 MP. Way to many games dropping at once across the 3 systems I love holiday release season! :D

Yes, he is "Drake"... sort of. His first name is NATE and last is Drake I believe. He says his name when he mumbles to himself. Sir F. Drake is the "Drake" from your old history books who the title used to refer to (Nate thinks he is related to him).

The controls can be changed in the final game.

They are shooting a show, but Nate is really there to find the lost treasure of Drake. He actually knows about the smugglers and thugs that hang around the area. He is friends with one who you will meet later in the game.

It was ok. Not the best, but not a turd. If I have the money and the game has a decently long(More than 5 hours less than 30) story or has replay value I probably will pick it up.

I really didn't care for the gunplay too much. I might be too used to playing Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3, but the action wsa very one sided. I plugged a guy with a good portion of a clip from the AK47 and he didn't die. I was hitting center mass shots that should drop a guy quick. The platforming was dead on though. Seemed like a crappy verion of Gears cover system but better than Tomb Raider adventure.

Keep in mind story-wise this is the fourth chapter of the game so something probably happened earlier for him to be expecting them.

Pretty much agree with this. I'm really hoping the shooting segments aren't that numerous. I didn't really care too much for them at all. The platforming was nice though, even if the climbing animations were a bit off.

Yeah, this isn't the very beginning of the game.
He knows what's going on.

Remember the final game is going to have a ton of different enviroments, and different vehicle sequences. (jeep and jetski that i know of)

I like how there's no loading at all. You push start and the game starts and there's no loading between the cutscenes and when you start playing.

Well, it is playing off the HDD.
Well, it is playing off the HDD.
The full game is alleged to be that way also. But, you guessed it...it will be using the HDD as a cache. I kinda like that sort of thing, personally.

why the hell does everyone compare this to GEARS?
ive never played gears but the gaming genres are not the same.
why the hell would u expect the shooting to be as good as gears when gears is obviously a FPS and uncharted is action/adventure?
thats like saying "wow i wish halo 3 u could climb up buildings and solve puzzles!"

my opinion anyways

I liked it, I usually never buy single player games though at launch because once I beat it I have a 60 dollar paperweight sitting there that I might not play again.
gears is obviously a FPS
Obviously you are unaware of it's third-person perspective.

Uncharted's cover system and combat is a lot like Gears. I've played Gears quite a bit, and I immediately thought of it once the action heated up. Not saying it's a ripoff, nor am I saying it's bad. Regardless, it is reminiscent.

That being said, I really liked the demo. I'm not paying $60 for this game, but I will play it eventually.

well i stated i never played gears before, but the main diff is isnt there a crosshair on the screen the whole time though?
The cover system is why it's being compared to Gears. Nothing else
Yep, I like Rainbow six vegas's better though, I hate having to hit O to get into cover and then O again to get out.

Well you have to push l2/r2 in vegas ;)

And you don't have to press O to get off of cover FYI

Vegas does have the best cover system out of all the games I've played that have a cover system.
Well if you had played Gears you could see why there are comparisons.
If what someone said about the gameplay is true (the full game is more exploration oriented), then the full game won't be as comparable to GoW as the demo (which was firefight heavy, and quite similar).

If the platforming is good, and the shooting sequences as good or better than the demo, we're in for a treat.

You do? I thought when I played it I just had to hold down the L2 button?

I couldn't remember if it was L2 or R2, but you get my point :p

Small details from around the net.

I still think this is the best looking game on a console, and the retail version will be even better. Hi-res, GREAT textures, GREAT shadows, GREAT animations and modeling.
It's the new Gears of War which I previously felt was probably the best looking thing out there.

1.Drake just dont walk though the bodies, he puts 1 foot on them
2.foes will get tired of you being in cover, and will come after you
3.Drakes mouth moves when he talk durning gameplay
4.Darke will get wet depends on how deep you are in the water, very cool
5.Grenades and bounce off walls, very fun

The second time you encounter enemies (the narrow passage), I killed one of the guys right next to a wall. Well, I used that wall as cover, and the point of Drake's foot rested on the on the body, and his heel was rested against the wall - and his entire leg was elevated at an angle due to the body being there.

Throwing a nade, and watching as the enemy hiding behind cover realizes he's screwed and utters a hopeless "Uh oh..."

He also blinks when bullets recoil close to his face.

Should be more than 8 yeah.
10 to 15 maybe? Depending on how you play, and difficulty.
Last I heard anyway.

Plus there are lots of unlockables, like different graphic filters, costumes, and playable characters.

I love shooting the enemies right when they are about to throw a gernade. They drop the gernade and then go, "OH SHIT!" haha.

It's cool that the enemies react to your bullets, I shot this one guy in the leg and he held his leg and limped away while trying to pull shots off with his other hand.
I think someone (probably Dallow or FriskyTanuki) posted that it's about 10 hours.
Yep. Posted this two pages ago.
If you haven't listened yet, this week's EGM Live starts off with a good interview with the lead gameplay designer for Uncharted, which has some good info in it:

-Uncharted will have it's own achievements system called the Medals system, which may be able to rollover into the trophy system when Home launches.
-There's also treasure pieces around the levels that will unlock stuff alongside the achievements.
-Once you beat Uncharted and maybe with the help of the unlockable stuff, you'll unlock new characters to play with.
-No load times, pop-in in the game.
-The game will likely take around 10 hours, give or take a few hours depending on your skill/difficulty and how much exploration you do.
-Supports 1080i, Dual Shock 3.
-Sixaxis is used for grenade aiming, though you can just use sticks if you want.
-The whole game doesn't take place in the jungles. *We've seen some in trailers (ships, flooded caves/tombs/temples)*
-One indoor area resembles Goonies meet Indiana Jones.
-Elaine's change in hair color was the result of a new hair shader.
-The composer for Joss Whedon's Firefly is the composer for Uncharted. The music can change depending on what's going on in the game.
-There may be some supernatural forces at work, showing its influence from Indiana Jones.
-On Jak and Daxter on PS3: "Wouldn't that be cool?"
I spent about 30 hours downloading the demo (exaggeration?), and just as it reached 50 percent done an 'unexpected error' occurred and I lost it all. Boo.

Major burn :/

I was hoping this game would stretch out to around 20 hours IMHO :/

That is probably my only complaint...just because I never want the fun to stop ;O

Damn this game looks/plays awesome

For the people bitching about the Uncharted demo's region-locking:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/11/09/uncharted-drake%e2%80%99s-fortune-demo-back-on-the-world-map/

Christophe Balestra, here, and I’m Co-President at Naughty Dog. I wanted to give a final update on the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune demo situation.

We’re really sorry about what happened and didn’t anticipate this at all. We just didn’t know people from other territories could connect to the US PLAYSTATION Network Store and download demos … now we do! We’ve been too busy working on the game to wrap our head’s around the infrastructure of the PSN.

We absolutely did not plan the demo to be region locked. As soon as we figured out the problem existed, Sam Thompson called me and I jumped into my car, drove to the office and fixed it right away. It’s an honest mistake and we didn’t try to prevent anybody from enjoying the Uncharted demo. I feel even more sorry because most of the people who experienced the problem are in Europe and I’m European myself.

So again, we’re really sorry about what happened and it wasn’t done on purpose. The good news is it’s now fixed and a new demo of Uncharted has been posted to the US PLAYSTATION Network Store so the entire world can enjoy it.

Thanks to Sam for taking the heat yesterday and for letting us know about the issue.
10 hrs its a sweet game but I don't know if its worth the cash just to be a 10 hr game.
Judging by the demo, I have a feeling it's going to take a lot longer.

If you have never played the game, how do you know it can't be compared? The cover system is very close and they are both third person perspective. While Gears is a shooting based game where Uncharted is obviously a little bit TPS, lota bit Adventure in the same vein of Tomb Raider.

One thing I liked about this game was the ability to change which shoulder you look over while shooting. I can't remember if I could do this in Gears. Anyway, this looks like it could be a good game, great even. But I am not going to get hyped about it only to be let down. If I don't hype myself up, and it is a good game, it will be just that much better. For me at least.

Wow! What an awesome demo. I was already sold, but now I'm thinking this might be my favorite game of the year when it comes out.

I just got my PS3 tonight, downloading the 2.00 update right now. Can't wait to check this game out!

:???:

And now the question becomes, where can we find the best deal on Uncharted? I'm seeing in the $55 range online for pre-orders so far.. any thoughts?

Why am I not surprised that Insomniac, Naughty Dog, and Sucker Punch (with Infamous) are going to get me to buy a Playstation 3? Sounds like Uncharted takes the best parts of Tomb Raider, Gears of War, and Prince of Persia, and mixes them together with great A.I. and amazing graphics.
