Del Tha Funkee Homosapien's 11th Hour is now slated for a February 2008 release.

Although I'm highly anticipating it, I'm not upset it's been delayed (it was originally supposed to come out in October)... Not only will that it insure it'll be a great album, but it'll give us more time to listen to classics such as I Wish my Brother George Was Here, No Need for Alarm, Future Development, and the greatest hip-hop album of all time, Both Sides of the Brain!

If you haven't copped any of those albums yet, do so, because they're all fantastic! I need to give Deltron 2020 more of a listen though...

Here's one of his best songs, Phoney Phranchise, off the album pictured above:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=UZynubB4Gks
Del is definitely in my top 5 favorite emcees and everything he puts out is good to me. I am glad Def Jux is putting the album out because it will be at places like Best Buy and stuff so I could pick up a physical copy and not have to wait for an online retailer.
I hadn't heard this in a long time.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=icqHCucFKGU
I remember that video it was great when Slick Rick came out but I still couldn't bring myself to buy his solo record.
Rozz>> have u heard the vinyl version of Phoney Phranchise? You can get it off emusic.

it's the same song but w/ a 3rd verse making the song clock in at ~5 minutes.

my fave Del records from best to worst: No Need for Alarm, IWMBGWH, Both Sides of Brain, Future Development.

No Need for Alarm is awesome! it's basically Del being hella cocky and thinking he's the shyt.

Brother George is a classic, as is Both Sides. I prolly like them both equally.

Future Development is meh... the songs all seem uninteresting and uninspired... good thing it never saw retail. If you take it out of the picture, you can consider Del a 3-time-in-a-row classic release artist.

Finally, 8 Diagrams leaked. I aint heard it, but the reception aint been too hot (according to the rap thread on shoryuken.com). Then again, doods there also didnt like GZA/Muggz which I thought was one of the best things I ever heard.

I gotta go on other forums and read more opinions
I have that vinyl and the cover is cool with Del holding a Dreamcast controller.

I will have to wait and see for myself on the Wu album because I like alot of their stuff others don't.

Who knows, maybe the new Wu-Tang album is dope... everyone shat on 'Stoned Raiders' by Cypress Hill, but I thought it was an excellent album!

Also, Jekki: I require you to listen to "Here Is Something You Can't Understand", the final track off Stoned Raiders. It features tha Dogg Pound and it's an awesome track!

man I'm hella sleeping on Cypress Hill...

I always wanna roll to the record store one day jus to pick up old shyt but everytime I go I jus end up getting new shyt.

it's like hmmm... Ice Cube's Predator or this new Kool Keith album???

then a month later I end up going back to sell the Kool Keith album coz it sucked and I shoulda bought Ice Cube instead

Jeeeeeaaaaaa

Gotta pick up DJ Honda's albums now, I'm kinda sad I've been missing out on these dudes back in the day. I mean, this song came out in 1998!

I'm pissed cuz I lost my Black Star album :/

the album I've been digging the past two days

http://cdbaby.com/cd/intellectuallysound
intellectuallysound.jpg

Portland has many secrets to it's myriad of mysterious characters that populate it's over-saturated Hip-Hop scene. But very few are as enigmatic, charismatic and musically eclectic as Intellectually Sound.

Intellectually Sound (I.S. for short) are Portland area natives that have embraced the underground lifestyle and mentality that most people in this "game" only talk about in narrative or falsehood. That is to say; Intellectually Sound is more than your prosaic Hip-Hop crew trying to make a mark in today's ever-expanding business of music. Intellectually Sound is rather a collective effort toward a more attuned and greater perspective on art, life, and everything that falls between. Using music as their medium I.S. has catalyzed a movement. A movement in the direction of intelligence, and a respect for culture, art, and humanity- in music as well as lifestyle. This state of awareness is summed up in what they call "Head Hop". "Head Hop" is a campaign for the evolution of Hip-Hop. Where Hip-Hop tells you how it is or how it was, Head-Hop provides a look ahead at how it could be.

For their debut album, Beats and a Poem Vol.1, each of the six members brings their own ingredient to the table to form a brilliantly comprehensive project. Wordsmiths "Mumbles Emcee", "Akro", and "Brandon Krusty", bellow a brilliant storm of witty, rapid fire cadence with relevant subject matter that is tastefully accompanied by an eclectic sea of hypnotizing soundscapes and thundering drums effectuated by producer's "The Byrdman" and "2x". Last but certainly not least, the soulful voice of vocalist "Sara" (as well as "2x") is sprinkled over the top of these ingredients to create a masterfully crafted work of art.

With so many members all from varied backgrounds and individual styles and habits, it isn't hard to imagine that Intellectually Sound's influences are as varied as the company they keep. With musical tastes ranging across the board (from soul and jazz to downtempo and world music), the untrained listener would naturally need some sort of comparison in order to ground themselves to their music. Clearly one of the shining upcoming stars of the Portland Hip-Hop scene, Intellectually Sound marks the birth of a new beginning (or end) of Hip-Hop as we know it.

Tapestries, Sound and Far Beyond (instrumental track) have been the big plays on my mp3 player. The beats though are a bit basic, they are still pretty fucking dope, never heard of 2x or The Byrdman but they seem to know how to lay down some great tracks. Hope an instrumental version comes out.

"In the world of Portland hiphop, it goes (1)Sandpeople,(2) Everyone else. Seeing that as truth, young rappers Prem and Flowtope allied themselves with Sandpeople super-producer Sapient to release the new and solid 'Roots To Branches' under the name Living Proof. Tonight's show celebrates the release of this jazzy and totally listenable collaborative effort with performances from Portland heavies Braille and Debaser, among others. Sapient's bangers will be on full blast during Debaser and Living Proof's set, and if that isn't enough to head out, Braille is a guy who's rocked thousands opening up for the late James Brown. Yes, that James Brown." GB

Tired of hitting quote so I will put your name if I'm talking to you or about you.

Rozz...Cypress Hill is a group that has been sleep on for so long but Muggs keeps putting down dope beats and B-Real always rips the mic.

Jekki...Ice Cube's Predator is a classic and one of Cube's best.

Inf^Shini...I have that DJ Honda album and it is a banger all the way through with Mos Def's Travelling Man on it. Thanks for the videos took me back. Also I can't put my finger on what Tupac song that beat is from. I will have to bust out my old cassettes for that.

Senorwoohoo...I saw that on RappersIKnow and meant to download it. Have you heard it yet and is it worth a download. Nicolay's production on the Foreign Exchange album was near perfect.

Fart_bubble
...Intellectually Sound and Living Proof are definite buys. Thanks for the links and info. Its cool that CDbaby added MP3 downloads so you don't have to wait for delivery.

Jekki, I'd post up DJ Honda's Straight Talk From Ny (Feat. Grand Puba & Sadat X) BUT they don't have the album version on Youtube.
I like the album version a hella lot better than the Music Video version posted up there :/

Check out the site for the Label Subcontact if you haven't heard of it already

That's it!!! Thanks
I am almost 100% sure it 2pac's song "pain" off of I think the above the rim soundtrack.
I'm still mad to this day that the song isn't on the Above the Rim CD. It was only available on the vinyl and cassette releases of the soundtrack.

i don't think it was posted, but kidz in the hall signed with duckdown. this is definitely a good looks to me, but i'm a self-professed bcc stan. also we are closing in on mood muzik 3, i know i'm not the only one who's hyped for that.

I'm getting tired of marco polo and 9th Wonder.

but also, School Was My Hustle was a FIRE album!! Day By Day, Go Ill, Ritalin, Cruise Control... fuck man I gotta dig that record back up.

and there was a Mood Muzic 2??? fuckin Joe Budden never gonna come out with a real album again! He's like Saigon Jr.

headpiece>> thanx for that Dilla mixtape! currently downloading now!!

Um, yeah. I actually own xXx: State of the Union on DVD. Gave it watch last night... not that bad, despite it's reputation. Plus, it stars everyone's favorite children's movie star/gangsta rapper Ice Cube!

51FACC0NCQL._AA240_.jpg

They should have picked better Cube songs for the soundtrack  There was a weird cover of Public Enemy's 'Fight the Power' by KoRn and Xzibit on it though... am I the only one who's heard it?

And just for the note, I'm currently listening to Death Certificate by Cube right now!

B00008BL9W.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

The rhymes on it are much weaker than 'Amerikkka's Most Wanted', but the funky production is great.

I swear one day I will pick up all of Cube's early discography... I'm doing hip-hop a great disservice rite now...

I remember Best Buy had limited edition two pack of his first two albums but it was released when I was strapped for cash... now that I can afford it they no longer sell it

anyway I've spent the whole week trying to grasp onto a faint memory of a rap group that was recommended to me back in the days...

I was gonna ask here, but I finally remembered it today.

Crown City Rockers!

has anybody heard of them?? are they good?? A long time ago (2003) someone recommended them to me and I was suppose to go to their show but couldnt make it...

then I asked a friend if he knew them and he said yeay and he would give me the cd, but he said he lost it...

a few years later... I completely forgot about them... until NOW!

I hope theyre on emusic... downloads should reset soon.

Senorwoohoo...I will check that out then thanks.

Inf^Shini...El Gambina is a dope emcee.

st0neface...That is a good move for Duckdown and it seems they may get the recognize they deserve as a record label.

Jekki...No problem on the mixtape and your right about Ice Cube's older collection it is solid. I remember hearing Crown City Rockers but I can't remember if I liked them or not.

Rozz...Whoa I have to disagree on the rhymes they are as dope and sometimes better. You have, Steady Mobbin', Giving Up The Nappy Dugout, No Vaseline (One of the best diss tracks) and How To Survive In South Central come to mind.

Crown City Rockers are fucking dope, Raashan Ahmad is great and Headnodic has always been great on the boards. All of their releases are great though I would give the nod to their first ep and album under the Misson: name called Mission and One and their Earthtones album under their Crown City Rockers name.

Kind of surprised to see that you two have been sleeping on them

I remember back in high school I would go to the computer lab during breaks & lunch & shyt like the nerd I am coz I didnt have the internet at my own home. I would stay and log onto www.sandboxautomatic.com and listen to vinyl samples all day!! I still wish I could get my hands on shyt like Camp Lo f/ Rev Run - Black Nostalgic remix!

so nowadays it's like damn... why am I sleeping on all this streaming audio these websites got now??

check THIS out: http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/audio/id.3496/title.styles-p-termanology-q-tip-stop-look-listen
Styles P, Termanology, and Q-Tip... shyt is fire!!! and that's only one song too... there's other songs on the site; one has DV Alias Khrist on it, another has Chaundon & Asheru!!

Oh yeah.. and Art of Storytellin 4... finally heard that shyt!

other things,

Ghostface interview:
http://blog.rhapsody.com/2007/11/exclusive-ghost.html

word on the streets is... Big Doe Rehab shits all over 8 Diagrams! In the interview, Ghost even straight up calls 8 Diagrams trash! doods are in sum straight drama rite now, taken from an allhiphop.com news article:
More issues plague the Wu-Tang Clan, as the group has canceled two high profile concerts, promotion company Live Nation announced today (November 27). The group canceled a show at the Fillmore in Denver Colorado on December 20 and another concert at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia on January 10. Live Nation did not offer an explanation for the cancellation of the concerts, which were meant to support their album 8 Diagrams. Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon sent shockwaves through the Hip-Hop community when he told Miss Info that he was not happy with the musical direction of 8 Diagrams. He also claimed RZA was robbing him and other members of the Wu-Tang Clan. RZA addressed the comments on Tim Westwood’s BBC Radio 1 program and said that there was a simple "disagreement" between the two that has since been resolved.

Now here we got a random yet somewhat amusing article about Lil Wayne. http://www.xxlmag.com/online/?p=16586
I’m going in again on my cousins at King magazine for their photo article on your favorite rapper, Lil’ Wang. Dude talks about going BACK to school. Didn’t Wang sign to Cash Money Records when he was 9yrs old? Dude dropped out of grammar school to become a rapper? So when Wang talks about going BACK to school he is talking about going back into fourth grade or some shit. I can see Wang sitting at the baby desks with all the other fourth graders while he gets them high off Elmer’s glue. Wang got an ‘A’ for his macaroni and glitter portrait of Trina.

finally, speaking of Termanology, he did another Primo song the other month... shyt is HOT!!

and  @ Sensual Seduction... jus watched that today!! yeay I kno it was posted a few posts back... but still...

EDIT: new Ice Cube (from hiphopdx), Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It: http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/audio/id.3498/title.ice-cube-gangsta-rap-made-me-do-it
unfortunately, not the whole song, but the hook is real talk!!

Fart_bubble...I didn't know that Mission was Crown City Rockers because I love that CD and still bump it in ride.

Jekki...That Termanology song is dope.

Senorwoohoo...Thanks for the mixtape downloading now.

Anyone here ever been to a Wu-Tang concert? There's one playing near me very soon and I'm wondering if they're worth checking out live.

Rozz...Short answer: Hell YES!
Long answer:
I caught them at Rock The Bells last year and they were incredible. They give you all the classics like C.R.E.A.M. and Truimph but they throw in the solo joints too which make it perfect. You will be impressed if it is anything like last year.
Last two downloads from emusic before reset:
CunninLynguists - Dirty Acres
Mad Men - Mad Men On Arrival

Glad I held out for that CunninLynguists because after one car and computer listen it is a solid release with dope beats from Kno of course and it is in the same vein of "A Piece Of Strange".

Had the Mad Men CD back in the day but lost it and already know I like it. Declaime and crew with some Kankick beats.

Dirty Acres is out?!?!?!?! damn maybe I should goto record store today???

I got two Crown City Rockers cds and Royce da 5'9" Bar Exam mixtape. (Royce is definitely growing to become one of my favorite emcees of the moment!)

also I've been rather impressed by this album:

61jJ5j2GM-L._AA240_.jpg

got it off emusic soon after it came out... it caught me by surprise!!!

I havent listened to KP since Heavy Mental, the first Sunz of Man album, and the Black Market Militia album.

I wasnt expecting anything, but it ended up being one of the most quality albums I heard this year!!!

now for sum random videos:

Crown City is cool. My friend grew up with some of the band, so he was always telling me about them. Being completely honest, I can't shake the feeling that I'm hearing "Roots-lite" when I put on some Crown City, but that's just my own thing and not really a damning statement on the quality of their music. Plus I'm sure there are a lot worse things than being compared to the Roots.

I had no idea that Dirty Acres already came out. Can't believe I slept on that! I'm ashamed of myself.

rapsodist...Man that's sick see if you can hook me too (j/k).

GuilewasNK
...good looking on the Jazzy Jeff videos, he is still putting it down.

No Intro from Common's Be? That is by far the hottest Intro of all time. New Wyclef is pretty good but it's hit or miss. About half the tracks are solid.

Pimp C's dead???

WHAT. THE. fuck.

There goes one of the best to ever be in the game (rapping wise he's ok, but on production   )

Now what's gonna happen with Bun B? I bet we ain't gonna be hearing anything from him in a while.

As far as I know, real hip hop consists of hieroglyphics, too short, mac dre, and other bay area folks.
Why can't rappers just wear t-shirts and rap anymore. Today these fags have to have chains, flashy clothes, and somebody to help them out. I can't help but laugh anytime I see someone wearing a g-unit shirt. Future Development , "in between lines play some samurai spirits."
