XBLA - Perfect Dark - Now available - Controls/achievement patch out now

Saw those screens, and this is looking great! I would certainly love if 4J Studios ported other Rare games from N64; *cough*JFG*cough*.
Please, oh please let the controls be updated for dual analog.
Since they've updated the controls for Doom on XBLA, I'm just assuming that the controls will utilize dual analog controls. I haven't played Wolfenstein on XBLA but I'm assuming they updated the controls for that game as well.
Please, oh please let the controls be updated for dual analog.
The original game supported dual analog by using two controllers, so I don't see why this release wouldn't.

I didn't realize that. Do I dare whip out my N64 today to try it? :joystick:

Wow I don't know if I ever knew about the dual analog thing. Almost makes me want to hook back up the 64.........almost.

Hmm...I really hope they have a License to Kill playlist/matchmaking mode in addition to standard DM game types. When my cousins and my brother and I played Goldeneye and this, it was only ever License to Kill, pistols only and frankly that's the only way I personally enjoy the game.

I'm curious what the new modes are that are going to be included with the game. Since the game was packed as it was with features that you don't see in games now a days (counter-op story mode and difficulty settings that change paths and missions).
wow first MvsC2, now PD! come on Golden Eye!
I really doubt Goldeneye will ever come out. PD was probably a much easier proposal for Rare to develop than Goldeneye because there isn't the baggage of the Bond license, which has been documented as the #1 reason as to why it hasn't come out yet.

But there's always the extremely off chance that a deal gets done, but I'm betting PD is all we get.

I thought it was unusual that the developer is listed as 4J Studios, but then I noticed Wikipedia says they also handled the Banjo ports.

Also for the paranoid... While the Xbox.com game page lists Live Multiplayer, the Marketplace page only lists Leaderboards under the online features. Hopefully just an error since the listing is so new.

Me too, I have my N64 next to my TV and I'm still too lazy to hook it up. I pretty much just keep it there as a monument to games long since past.

It's an instant buy at 10 bucks. How much are the banjo ports?

At anything more then 10 then it's play the demo and then judge.

I never knew that you could use two controllers on the N64 for the dual analog experience, but then you will only have two buttons to use?
The steady frame rate is going to make this a totally different (and better) game.
Steady framerate + online = win

I am also suspecting the game will cost 1200 points, like Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie.
It could be $100 and I'd still buy it on day one.

Cannot. Freakin'. Wait.
Don't give microsoft any ideas.

But yeah, I agree. Forget Shadow Complex and all that, this is the XBLA game of the year. :D
Has anyone heard any news about pricing yet? I'm looking forward to this in the absence of Timesplitters 4.
Me too. When's the release for this anyway?

It's arguably the best shooter on the N64 (the other being goldeneye). Myself, I'd say it gets the edge due to having bots which for me, were a big thing back in the day before online multiplayer.

Yeah, it's pretty fun. I popped it into the N64 a little last year and thought it held up pretty well, although it's hard to predict what brand new players will think of it after years of Call of Duty and Halo.

It's got a lengthy campaign (with 2P co-op) with a good variety of mission objectives. The multiplayer allows a lot of customization and there's a huge arsenal with each gun having a bizarre alt-fire.

I'm wondering if they'll expand the multiplayer to allow more than 4 human players online. It seems like a no brainer but you never know. 8 people running around the Facility would be crazy! Also it would be cool if they put the knockoff Goldeneye guns into the multiplayer.
Me too. When's the release for this anyway?
It used to be this winter, I guess that means March 2010 at the latest. I was hoping it was Dec. 2009.

Yea I was going to look for the release date over at VGReleases.com and found this cool related news snip with some unannounced artwork in it as well:

I wonder what's up with the second set of screens. That is definitely not the classic HUD in the "original" screen. The ammo counts are also exactly the same, which got me wondering if maybe you can toggle between the original and update graphics during the game and that's how they got everything to match so nicely. Or maybe whoever puts together the comparison screens is OCD.

In any case, I hope they touch up the HUD to use the original font, or at least use something similar. Times or whatever they've got now looks pretty sloppy.

Here's a new image of the Farsight:

I think it looks sort of hideous. Glossy blue alien gun >>> weird ornate pottery-looking thing.

I suppose at this point it's too much to hope that the Phoenix and Callisto won't be getting a similar treatment.

It was posted by Rare, on Rare's website. You realize the Rare logo doesn't add itself to a screenshot, right? That they would need Photoshop to add it in?

Here's a couple of pics that AFAIK haven't been posted in here yet (this thread needs a well deserved bump anyways):

Elvis looks like a senior citizen now, the ammo count font looks a bit better than in earlier pics (not quite as good as the original, though), and the Magsec isn't cool anymore. :(

Still no firm release date or feature list. Not even a pic of Joanna's in-game face. Just 1080p and "winter"... :whistle2:|

Shameless plug: If you want to be where the action (mostly complaining ATM, actually) is, join the xbox.com Perfect Dark cult! \\:D/

Nice, thanks for the list. It's sort of disappointing that they can't give this a full 1000 points' worth, though. There's definitely enough content.

Also, looks like they added the classic weapons to multiplayer finally. No need for a Goldeneye remake now!

I've never had such a love/hate relationship with a game. Ever.

I looked at this thread last night, saw the new screenshots (dear god), the acheivements, and the fact that some mentioned classic weapons, and I got really really excited. More excited than I am for any 'actual' game releasing this year or next.

Then, it hit me. Looking at the screenshots and how great they look, I just fucking said it: this could and should have been GoldenEye. Then I went on a twenty minute rant about the terrible awful things I would do to even spend an hour with the early build of 'remake GoldenEye'.

It was not a proud moment for me. So, yeah, excited about this and all, but it just makes me so happy and depressed at the same time.
