Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Gen. Discussion & Info

I thought the same thing as you guys with the knife 3 achievement during my first playthrough, that I swore I've done it a few times and didn't get it. Then I finally got it in Secure the VIP. I think you have to kill 3 in a row fairly quickly to get it, since I didn't get the achievement until then.

Got Three of a Kind as well, but can't recall a good level to do it in. I think I tried it out later in the War Pig mission during the building-to-building parts.

Last night was badass. We kicked so much ass. Well I didn't. But I camped pretty good. I will have to stay up till 4 am with you guys again soon.

Yeah I was wondering if I should offer to give you pitches for your tent :) It sucked that I was on the other team and people kept quitting which ended up booting me out of the lobby.

I got the knife one on my first play through not even trying for it.

I think you have to kill all 3 in pretty rapid succession. Not just three in a row, but three very quickly--like a triple kill in Halo 3.
I got stuck there on Regular. Oddly, I got past the latter part when I got pissed, decided not to use many air strikes and just ran down the road after making it about half way down. I didn't even get shot once.

Doubt that would work on Hardened or Veteran though. :D
Yeah, I ran across the right field as there wasn't too many tangos around there after I called in two air strikes. I then made it into that two-story restaurant building and called air strikes all down the hill and threw a few smoke grenades and ran for it.

I didn't realize it until later, but you have smoke grenades instead of flashes for that level. It definitely helps, so keep that in mind for anyone who is having trouble.

I never understood why they did airstrikes like that in the single player. I far prefer the airstrike call-in on multi-player.

I wasn't even trying for the headshot achievement when i picked up a random AK in the TV Station and "sprayed" (Button mashing) the horde of enemies rushing at me and i got it somehow...every shot was a fucken headshot it was insane, and on Veteran no less.

In fact, i feel that i only beat veteran on luck alone, During the last mission of One Shot One Kill I forgot that i had C4 and Claymore's and only remembered them when i was carrying Mcmillian away, grabbing every single grenade that landed at my feet and lobbing them back without getting blown up or shot to shit.

During heat I just ran down the hill as fast as i could and managed to somehow make it before the chopper arrived.
Just play Crew Expendable and knife the drunk in the hallway and then the 2 guys sleeping in the next room. Achievement Unlocked.
Got it! Thanks.

Did anyone else notice the big gnarly shit in the toilet where the two guys were sleeping?
I see Xbox Live is back to being slow as shit. I was just playing a couple hours ago and it was fine, now it sucks ass. I don't get it.
I can't even connect to a game without it dropping all the players or even start before the room closes.
Got it! Thanks.

Haha, no. That's gross, wow.

Haha, no I didn't see it. Does it explode when you shoot it?

no online achievements kills this game and takes the fun out of it... its better than halo even... but the achievements give u something to work towards
Haha, no I didn't see it. Does it explode when you shoot it?
Damn, I should've tried shooting it. It's not so much a log of shit as it is.....poop soup....I guess.
The challenges are better than achievements, and it gives you something to work towards.
how about an achievement for a rank, or obtaining a challenge, or getting so many kills?

no1 sees what u accomplish online unless u play cod4... while any1 can see i got 10k kills in gears, etc

Who gives a fuck if other gamer nerds can see your accomplishments?

That's a pretty pathetic reason to play games. I play to have fun, and I like the challenges as at least leaving up gives you new weapons, perks etc. that add to the gameplay rather than just building up your nerd rep.

I've just never got the point of caring about gamerscore.

Then it's not for you.

Getting 10k kills in Gears is QUITE an achievement and I can see that as a motivation for the hardcores out there. Who says you can't have fun while being competitive?

Point is getting 10,000 kills should be the fun part. Not doing it just so people can see it on your live profile.

But like you said, just not for me I guess, as I don't care what shows up on my gamercard. Just a phenomenon I"ll never "get" I guess. *shrugs*

Wrong.

The game is fantastic online even without the achievements. Achievements a la Gears' achievements would be very nice indeed, and they would add even more depth, but they are not essential to enjoying the game.

And people an see how well you're doing on the leaderboards.

I think just a better leaderboards overall would be the answer because the one they have right now sucks.

How about Weapon stat kills?
Best performance in a map?

The challenges are achievement-esque, but with such a short SP, having all the achievements be SP is sort of dumb.

Agreed.

Making the challenges give players achievements would've been so easy.

Something like complete Prestige mode x amount of times.

Complete all Killer, Operations, etc challenges.

Complete all AR, SMG, LMG, Sniper, Shotgun challenges. Any of those could've been made into achievements.

Man, the game is pretty cheap on Hardened. Don't know if I'll bother finishing.

Probably wasn't the best idea to try to get all the intels on a harder difficulty either.

Do you have to get all 30 in one play through? Or is it just find them all eventually to get the cheats/achievement? The second one in One Shot, One Kill is pain in the ass to get.

You don't have to get them all in one run through.

I absolutely love the fact that there are no online MP achievements, When i was playing Halo 3 everyone was fucking around trying to get their damn achiements and fucking up the game...i wanted to have fun and play a game where people dont give you shit...FOR WINNING A DAMN GAME!! took all the fun out of it for me.
You don't have to get them all in one run through.
Good to know! I'll just fire up one shot, one kill one easy to get that one if I decide to keep pushing for all 30.

I'm really not having much fun replaying on Hardened though. Just not good enough /severely lacking the patience to play FPS's on anything about normal difficulty by myself for the most part. Shame it doesn't have co-op play. I have a hard time motivating myself to push through the hard parts when I've already seen the ending, played all the levels etc.

Wouldn't be bothering with it at all if Live hadn't been a complete piece of shit for most of the past week. :bomb:

Don't forget that when you pickup an Intel, it's saved as being picked up. For example, some of the Intels would really fuck up my normal run through a level, so I'd just cook a frag and kill myself after picking up that particular Intel.

That's because the Halo 3 MP achievements were dumb. They should've allowed the achievements to be done in any ranked match, not just Lone Wolves.

the One Shot level on veteran is impossible. once i get around the corner to the area w/ 2 buses they swarm you. i tried sniping , then went in the bus and layed down. they throw bombs, which wont get to you if you stay away from the door or a dog even runs in. any ideas?

Are talking about the part at the beginning? Just shoot a few of them and run like hell. They don't follow you. Or at least they don't on Regular and Hardened.

Hide in the bushes that are by the two buses, most of the baddies will run past you. Then sprint to the apartment you need to get to.

That's the reason IW doesn't have multiplayer achievements. It affects the way people play the game. I am glad there are no online achievements.

That's the exact same part I've been stuck on on Veteran as well, I'm gonna give that a try.

Yea I was excited to see that.

Good point joe.

I agree that the MP has been implemented extremely well. Challenges are enough to keep me going. Though I only played afew halo3 games, about half of them kids asked me to do somethign to help them get an achievmeent or something, pretty annoying.

Yea, you have to hide in the bushes, but they sometimes see you. It took me about 6 tries, and I flashbanged and killed 2 guys when I got past it. Here is a link to the guide I used. This guy does it perfectly though.

At first I was glad to hear that CoD 4 MP didn't have achievements, for the reason you stated. The last thing I need in a game that has huge emphasis on team work is some guy trying to get the "Survive an entire round without killing anyone" achievement.

But if done right I don't think having MP achievements in CoD 4 would have made the game that bad. You're already playing to complete challenges, so tying achievements with getting those wouldn't be a bad idea.

Except that challenges unlock other things in the game, whereas achievement points do not. Challenges make the game better and more interesting, both for the, ahem, challenge, and for the XP. Achievement points are just for online bragging rights.

The only achievement I think they should have had online would be "Get to level 55." I think the single player ones were varied and well thought-out.
