where did you get the guides from man, eb/gs i assume? Thats the only store I can recall that carries those 2 guides.
Yeah, that was part of the most recent drop that just came at us out of the blue from GS. I really don't need either and would trade both, but haven't added them to my TL yet.

Speaking of TL's, I sent out a bunch and need to update. I best go do that NOW.

if anyone happens to come across a 2nd copy of lego star wars 2, hit me up, because its the only guide my store doesn't have at the moment. I did have one in hiding to, and it still shows in the system, but I can't find it anywhere.

Vahn, did the store get a memo to destroy/remove these guides ASAP? If that happened, I figure there's no point in me even trying at BB tomorrow.

The following guides will drop to a penny

Lego Star Wars 2: The Original Trilogy (8023015)
Codes & Cheats: Fall Edition (8044742)
Madden Nfl 07' (7941301)
Mortal Kombat: Armagedon (8039767)
Need For Speed: Carbon (8131014)
Scarface: The World Is Yours (8029769)

I was on my way out tonight and they posted this small list of drops last minute to be official this following monday. I have listed the skus for the guides after the name as well to resolve any confusion if there is any. Hope this helps some people, I know its not a great list, but it IS something. your CAG friend, vahn.
Thanks so much for the heads up. Too bad nothing at all on there I need, but I'm an addict, so I'll stop by anyways.

It was part of this weekly new release thing that came out today. I printed it out and showed it to the media employees at my store and they had no idea about it. So I'm thinking tomorow will probably be your best bet if you'd like to get ahold of these guides.

vahn - once again, thanks for your diligence in helping out us fellow guide hunters. I'll be on the lookout for an extra LSWII guide (I want one as well!).

Scarface might be a decent one to pick up if I can find it with the Wii version on the way.

Most likely, I'll be picking that up if I can find it. But I'm getting it when I go Tuesday to get the new NiN album.

Thanks for the head's up, vahn. Always appreciated.

Thankfully, I picked these up a while ago when they were on sale + $5 off coupon, so I don't have to do anything this time around, save picking up the Codes & Cheats guide. Whew. :D

If Scarface would finally drop to $20 or under, I'd definitely try to grab a copy of the guide, since I seem to gravitate more towards the GTA clone games than anything else. And, it's a pity it took so long for the MK Armageddon guide to drop, as I already bought the damned thing with some of the massive credit I had at GS thanks to the 'trade 3, get $10 extra' deal a while back. That was the FIRST guide in forever that I actually paid FULL PRICE for.

Funny part is though, with the email the one DM gave me back before he thought of me as a devil customer, I could've got it for $10. The email(once printed) allegedly would give me 50% off a guide. And, believe it or not, this was at GAMEFRAUD(GS), no less.

Hm. Still no drop on FFIII or Animal Crossing, eh? I should probably just buy FF w/ a coupon, it's getting tough to find a nice copy in-store.

For the guide Need for Speed: Carbon, is the penny guide the Prima guide? Cause I saw a Prima one but the skus was a different number so I didn’t pick it up.

Thanks for the links, lox and for the drops Vahn. I'm updating the wiki with todays drops.

I haven't gotten to the wiki issue as I had intended (someone hit my Mum in traffic and that sorta takes precedence over CAG) but it will be done.

damn, either the employee's pulled everything before the store opened or someone came in and hid everything the night before :(

Went to the Aurora store at opening and went home with nothing :( THIS MEANS WAR BITCHES!! :(

I'm not sure, but it looks like someone might have either beat me there or the employee are starting to pull the guides. I did manage to get two scarface guides that were with the pc games.

Yep, the only one is Prima. There's 2 SKUs for each guide.

I checked 6 BB's and they had them all except Lego Star Wars 2 (the only one I wanted). If anyone managed to grab an extra one, please PM me. I did grab extra copies of Scarface and Need for Speed Carbon, which I'll trade for LSW2.

Also, did the BB clearance a couple of months ago end? I saw Oblivion CE (Xbox360), but the price was back up to $50, as well as some of the other games now that are full price. Anyone know what happened there?

Thanks again, vahn, for the heads up!

Thanks Vahn!
Picked up a couple of each but only one Legos and Madden.
Thank goodness my store is behind the ball....and they were putting out 20 wiis !!!! Bought one to perhaps trade for a non working motorcycle....

BTW - Didn't arrive until 11 a.m....

Just updated my trade list in the Guide Trading Thread....

MK Armagedon, NFS, and Scarface were all I could find. Tried a few others (in case of surprises, as has happened in the past) and nada.

Picked up the LEGO SWII guide during lunch, it was the last one...thanks, vahn!

The location I went to...the BB off I44 near Yale in Tulsa, OK...had 4 Scarfaces, at least 2 MK Armageddons, and at least 3 NFS Carbons left. Some of the guides were in the PC game section instead of the console section.

Thanks Vahn,
Picked up one of everything, and the last duplicate of Lego Star Wars (offering to Vahn, for now). Keeping everything else.

They had just about everything at my local BB, just not many copies of them. Picked up 1x NFS Carbon, MK Armageddon, Scarface and the last two copies of Lego Star Wars, one of which is for another local CAG. Thx again for the info vahn!

Relevant to Houston folks only...

Used to find a bunch of guides at BB for $.01...then that stopped a while back.

Then I noticed that 1/2 price books (it's a chain) suddenly started getting in a bunch of guides with BB tags on them.

So, apparently some dirtbag employee is cleaning the shelves of them, and toting them down to 1/2 price and turning them in for credit (which I think is 1/4 of the original price).

So, seems like it is "good luck" in trying to score cheap guides at the NW Houston stores anymore...

I wasn't even going to go since I struck out for the last penny drop but a co-worker wanted to go to Best Buy...ended up picking up Scarface, MK: Armageddon and Madden 07 guides, plus a copy of Crimson Skies for the Xbox for $4.99 (actual game not the guide, I always buy something when getting pennied guides so I don't look like the cheapass that I really am)

You can try the BB on 1960 just south of 290. I picked up a set there, but there was very little to choose from and most of it was in poor condition. If you want a nice copy of Scarface you could try going there (but they may be gone now).

And I don't know about that. Half Price Books are sons of bitches and typically will screw you on trade-ins. They'll always offer you some crap like $0.10 apiece.

Thanks Vahn!

I got to my magical Best Buy at 11. The guides are in the PC game area now, and as I walked down the aisle with the guides, the media associate followed with a cart and scanner. I looked at my post-it note list, then to the shelf, and found some guides. He looked at my list and the guides in my hand. "Can I help you find something?" I shook my head and walked around the corner. There were more guides on the other side. He rounded the corner as I picked up a few more. "Are you looking for any guide in particular?" I smiled. "Nope. Well, not anymore."

The haul:
Codes and Cheats Fall 2006
Lego Star Wars 2 (x2; I'm keeping one) Two good offers, and their both gonzo
Need for Speed Carbon
Madden NFL 2007
Scarface (x2)

I saw the Mortal Kombat guide, but forgot to pick it up. I went back on my lunch break and didn't see it. They still had plenty of NSMB's, Zelda's, AC:WW's, and FFIII's, so I'm hoping the BIG drop comes soon.

I was going to go ahead and secure the rest for other local or remote CAGers before they got pulled.

So, if it was another Tulsa-area CAGer...which one of you is my competition?

The BB at 71st and Memorial was also cleaned out by 6pm this evening.

Went to all but one BB today -bright and early.

Nothing at two stores, and picked up these at the third:

Scarface
MK: Armageddon

Slim pickins today...

Looks like I'll have to trade for the others.

I didn't have a chance to hide them, so naturally the guides were gone last night.

No biggie, just waiting for AC: WW and FFIII to penny out!

Went to 4 BB's yesterday. 3 looked like they were pulled before opening and the last looks like it was ravaged by a hoarder(s). All I was able to find was Need for Speed in the PC section.

I wasn't able to find the Mortal Kombat Armageddon guide I wanted. If anyone has an extra for trade check my list in my signature or the CML link for some guides I have to trade for it.

With everyone saying it was tough going this time around, I'm glad I grabbed the stuff I wanted when it was $1.99 AC. The code book wouldn't be a bad find, though not a huge issue if I couldn't find it. And no luck with that in the one BB I had a chance to check yesterday on a failed check for a Wii nunchuck.

Ditto. If I hadn't grabbed MK Armageddon and NFS Carbon during that sale w/ the free code book coupons I would've been stuck with really crappy looking copies this time.

Picked up 3 today at BB.

Madden NFL 07 They had a stack of these
MK Armagedon
NFS Carbon

Thanks for the heads up Vahn!

I went to the new Richmond BB (Commonwealth Center) this afternoon. To my surprise, this is what I found:

Left to right:
- Mortal Kombat Armageddon (x2)
- Red Steel (x2)
- Guitar Hero 2
- Lego Star Wars 2 (x2)
- Saints Row (under the receipt)
- Dead Rising (x2) (!) (I should note that I plan on keeping the extra for a rainy day. That is, unless someone has an extra LoZ Minish Cap guide or Front Mission World Historica artbook they'd like to part with :) )
- Another Guitar Hero 2
- SOCOM Combined Assault
- Prima Yoshi's Island DS

The only thing I can figure is that the store has had stock for a couple of months now, sitting in the back room (or distribution center) until it opened. That, combined with inexperienced employees, led to a whole rack filled with penny guides.

Anyway, I took my stack up to the registers. The cashier scanned the first one, moved on to the second, then looked up. "Uh, I can't sell you these. I don't know why they keep putting them out on the shelves." My heart skipped a beat. In all my experience buying penny guides at BB, I've never been rejected. She called over another cashier. "Just go ahead. I sold a few last night."

Bingo. But a question - just how many penny guides were there earlier if the cashiers already had experience selling them? This Best Buy deserves special attention when the next drop rolls around.

Richmond CAGers: There were a few more Saint's Row, SOCOM, Yoshi's Island DS, Red Steel, MK, Scarface, and Guitar Hero 2 guides left. No KH2 or anymore Dead Risings, though. All are absent the typical BB shelfwear (my two Dead Risings are nice and glossy).

Heaven knows Vahn was running around like a maniac trying to get the info - and we all appreciate it - but it just came too late this time. if us cags just find out about it the day before, there's really little chance before opening the next day when they're all pulled. ah well. There's always next time.

You could have run down there Sunday if you were intending to hide guides. I myself have never had a problem just going at opening the Monday of the drop and picking up what I need. His one day heads up was plenty for me.

That's a good idea now that BB is cracking down. The problem for me this time was finding the Lego Star Wars 2 guide. All my stores were sold out of it.
As for the info being too late, I've just made it a habit to check this thread every Sunday at the end/beginning of the month. Since there wasn't one at the beginning of this month, I've been checking back every Sunday since. Its already been known that BB does their drops every Monday morning.
I just wish GS and TRU would have similar patterns.

I disagree, at least notification one day prior to the drop is better than no notification at all. Odds are that you, myself, and many other CAGs wouldn't of even known about it since the drop occurred in the middle of the month instead of at the beginning which is usally when BB does them. I wasn't even able to check any on Monday but found all of them the next day.

Unless you check guides every day for drops or get inside info (thx Vahn) its always a gamble on whether you'll find any at all, let alone be allowed to purchase them for $0.01. Especially if your area is notorious for pulling guides on a regular basis or are tools about selling them.
