The Jerry "The King" Lawler Wrestling Topic
To wrangle this topic back in place, I forgot to mention that the LAX/Black Reign & Rellik match was one of the worst (male) TV matches I've seen in years. Their timing was off something hardcore. Even the ref was staring right at Black Reign as he was doing a run-in, and proceeded to turn around and berate Hernandez while Reign finished his run-in. I only hope that a future botchamania features Rellik throttling an irish whip into the tunrbuckle back and forth about 4 times because Hernandez kept getting in the way. It looked awful, awful, awful.
Not to mention that double clothesline LAX did on Rellik. Homicide hit at the right time, but Hernandez hit it a few seconds later and looked horrible cause of it.

As for Raw, they're now promoting a battle royal with returning superstars(gimmick battle royal?) & also a Evolution reunion.

Ya know it's funny watching WMXII here, to see just how classless Bret Hart and to a certain degree his dad, Stu, really are. After Michaels won the match Bret storms off out of the ring like a little baby - and in a moment of pure comedy a fan drapes what looks like a Canadian flag on him, only for Bret to rip it off and throw it in the face of another fan. Then Michaels is celebrating with the fans, and Bret's son, Blade jumps up to shake Michaels' hand, Michaels shakes hands with the people around and extends his hand to Stu, who looked as though he were shaking the hand of the Devil himself.

How the hell so many people cheered a self-righteous asshole like Bret Hart is beyond me. I'm certainly not saying Michaels was free of flaws, but at least he was upfront about it and didn't pretend he was perfect like Bret. Whoever called Bret Hart the biggest Bret Hart mark was dead on.
One of the cats over at Pop-Up Insider suggested changing Rellik's name to Rebboj.

I don't care much for that site, but that's pretty clever.
That's ripped straight off of the f4wonline.com site, and is quite fitting, as he's yet to win in TNA. Again, hell of a monster.

The SmackDown crew barely avoided serious tragedy today - http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/headlines/default.asp?aID=21512

Whew, I'm glad they were able to avoid disaster there, as that would've easily been a major tragedy had the plane landed, and in terms of sheer numbers, possibly the greatest tragedy in wrestling history.

Also, Carlito has decided to stay in WWE - http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/headlines/default.asp?aID=21514

WWE having a variety of reasons to keep him is good, and while I don't expect Carlito to win the IC title in Raw's ladder match, I do expect them to give him a good showing and come close. Hopefully the Carlito-Hornswoggle feud is over as a result of this.

According to Bret, after Michaels won, he told Bret to "get the fuck out of the ring".

I don't know if it's true because from what I can tell, Michaels doesn't say much before Bret leaves the ring but if so it could explain some of the Hitman's attitude that day.

For the most part however, Bret just sounds like a pretty bitter guy. I mean, there's a big part on his DVD set where he criticizes the buildup for that match and really never has anything nice to say about Michaels. On the recent Michaels DVD it's mentioned that he has tried to reconcile with Bret but his apologies aren't being accepted.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was on his DVD that he mentioned why he was pissed after the match. He wanted to hand Michaels the belt as some sort of "passing the torch" moment, ref grabbed it quickly and handed it to Michaels. Bret wanted to do some kind of show of good sportmanship, but Michaels told him to get the fuck out of the ring. The more I hear about HBK, the more it seems like the guy's a asshole.

Oh as for Jericho feuding with Orton, forget about that after Armageddon. Triple H has been burying Jericho backstage due to lackluster matches & mic time, plus the mediocre crowd reactions. So Trip will be burying Orton in a feud after the PPV while a feud between Y2J & JBL will be built towards a match at Wrestlemania 24.

If that's the case, I stand corrected then. Hard to know who to believe these days though, however, Michaels was certainly arrogant and cocky enough at the time to say something like that.

Agreed. Bret was one of the most talented wrestlers ever, he had a good look for a smaller guy, a great move set and could tell a story with his matches with the best of 'em. However, he took things so personally and I wonder if some of that was drilled in to him at a young age by Stu. The more stories I read about Stu and how abusive he was, the more I blame him for how Bret is today.

I really think it'd do Bret a lot of good, mentally speaking and even physically, to just drop all that hate he has for Shawn Michaels for things that happened so long ago.

Then again, I wasn't in that situation and I don't know all the things that were and weren't done and said, so unfortunately maybe it's not that easy.

That's another one I'll never get. Why Triple H hates Jericho so much... I almost wonder if he feels threatened by Jericho, and the fact that Jericho was the man to beat Rock and Stone Cold in one night instead of HHH. The fact that Jericho has mic skills on-par if not better than HHH, that he has in-ring skills better than HHH's, that he's not injury prone, that he could've easily ran with HHH's top heel gimmick in the early 2000's and done it much better. Perhaps that is HHH's problem, or maybe Jericho pissed in HHH's tea too. Who can say.
Wow, a Y2J/JBL feud? Who does HHH hate more, Jericho or the viewers?
Reading the spoilers for the Iraq tapings, it looks like the feud will be happening.

I didn't think it was possible, but after reading this Samoa Joe looks even more retarded:

An ironic note in regards to the Kevin Nash/Samoa Joe heat stemming from Joe’s shoot promo at Turning Point is that Nash is one of the key people who pushed hard for a long time to get TNA to sign Samoa Joe when he was in ROH. Nash was a big fan of Joe’s ROH matches he saw on DVD. Despite his past, Nash has built a stellar reputation backstage in TNA for not being involved in any politics, showing up on time, doing what he is told, and setting an example for younger wrestlers.

That's what I think... When you think of the top guy's of the 90's, you usually come up with a list of Rock, Austin, (and the guy that beat both) Jericho... it may or may not include Triple H. I doubt many would argue that Triple H was ever a bigger fan favorite than Jericho.

Which is interesting.. cuz as of late, Jericho has had a pretty lukewarm reception. His new move sucks and his promos are lackluster. Is this a case of WWE over-milking a come back? Or do people just not care as much as they used to?

Some news.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that while details are still sketchy, WWE's SmackDown/ECW crew had a huge scare a few hours ago in Europe.

Apparently after last night's show in Frankfurt, Germany, the WWE superstars were on a Lufthansa flight that was going to Zurich, Switzerland (the location of tonight's show). As the aircraft was about to land, another airplane got in the way of landing. At the last minute the pilot of aircraft carrying WWE talent was able to get the airplane back in the air.

The aircraft later landed safely. The entire WWE crew was said to be very shaken up and were even described as being "white as ghosts" several hours after the scare.
Carlito has rescinded his notice and has agreed to stay with WWE.

He had a meeting with Vince McMahon at RAW and McMahon convinced him to stay.

WWE decided right now for a variety of reasons that they didn't want to lose him even though he had been unhappy with the promotion for months.

Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

For the few people who order TNA pay-per-views, if you recall at last month's Genesis pay-per-view, Tracy Brooks inexplicably fainted near the end of the Robert Roode vs. Samoa Joe match. Medics came to her aid and she was said to be fine later in the night. However, it is now coming out that Tracy's fainting spell was completely staged.

According to a source who overheard a conversation involving individuals who would absolutely know, TNA writer Vince Russo told Brooks to "faint" and to not tell anyone -- not even her co-workers or friends -- that it was a work. Brooks ended up feeling really guilty about it because she had to lie to her good friends. However, she was concerned that she might lose her job if she didn't go along with Russo's idea.

Brooks' fainting spell lead to nothing -- except to divide the crowd's attention away from the match going on the ring while EMT's attended to her. Her fainting spell was never mentioned on television. Right after her collapse during the pay-per-view broadcast, they cut to a camera shot of Brooks down on the floor. It was portrayed to the viewers as a mystery attack and part of the show since Mike Tenay was talking about how they didn't see what had happened.

Lance Storm is awesome.

TNA: Impact December 06, 2007
- TNA is completely retarded!!!!
- This weeks show was so f--k'ing bad I'm tapping out AGAIN. I may give them another chance in the New Year (maybe not), but I don't need this aggrevation over the holidays. NOTHING makes a lick of sense on this show.
- Before I go any further, because this is going to get stiff, let me clarify that TNA has likely the best talent roster going. There are more guys I'd rather see working, in TNA than on RAW, SD, or ECW, quite possibly even combined. That being said I can't stomach this show any longer, the booking is so beyond comprehendable I give up.
- So much of this show was centered around Cornette wanting these cases secured, so no one could tamper with them. Problem is those of us with at least half a brain (this obviosuly excludes whoever wrote this shit) realizes that since the guys showed up in their cars with the cases, to open the show, they've already had the cases for "4-days", I'm pretty sure any tampering they wanted to do would be done by now!
- To make matters worse (a TNA booking theme) to secure the cases they are put on DISPLAY in a room that the entire locker room wonders through during the show.
- People actually paid (grantly probably not that many) to watch Turning Point to find out who would get title shots and who would get fired. This didn't happen on PPV instead TNA screwed the fans and told them it will be done on Impact for free. Now on Impact we are told, sorry folks you have to wait till next week. This is such poor bait and switch business it's unbelieveable.
- They did the exact same thing with the Fight for the Right match. They promised to award a Title shot to someone on the PPV, but at the PPV we were told that it was just going to decide seeding for a tournament that would happen on free TV. Then they have the tournament on free TV only to find out that we still don't get to know the guy who gets the Title shot because they are doing a rematch on PPV. So to get what fans were promised on 1 PPV they had to buy 2 PPVs, and watch 6-8 hours of Impact. That's bullshit!
- We then have an unadvertised 6 man ladder match for the "possession" of the X Title belt. Johnny Devine now has "legal" possession of the belt, but isn't the champ, while Jay Lethal is the X Champion but doesn't have the belt. If that makes sense to anyone I suggest you seek psychiatric help immediately.
- Did they pin Gail Kim tonight because they were pissed fans cared more about her match at the PPV than they did the Main Event? The Women's Title has been the only thing they have been doing right lately (likely the reason why fans cared at the PPV) so they have a girl who isn't even in the angle pin Gail in the middle of the ring. Absolutely retarded.
- There are a ton of other things wrong with the show, but why bother. I think I just put more thought into writing this than TNA does into booking the show. I'm done. To the talented guys and girls who work in TNA, I wish you the best, but I can't watch this show anymore it's just not worth it!!!!

Everyone who's talking shit about this week's Impact is pretty much right. The absurdities are as strong as ever but there were a few good parts. Christian's promo was gold as usual. He was dead on about Tomko and AJ... and the main event, despite the bad logistics/camera work that myke talked about.. wasn't bad either. Sure it was a bad show in general.. but some parts were ok. I'd say 4/10.

Oh and another thing, Team 3D have been great for a while now.

I linked to the Carlito and SD crew scare things earlier, and the ratings are apparently in - Impact did a 1.1, while ECW did a 0.6. ECW's rating is incredibly low, although not entirely surprising given the poor job WWE did of promoting that the show was airing on Thursday. Given that this is TNA's first ratings victory over WWE, I expect WWE to be better prepared next time ECW goes against Impact.

Hot damn that MVP-Hayes segment was incredible! Hayes dropping bombs and getting laid out by MVP, following some of the most emotional dialog on wrestling TV in ages = win!

The Finlay-Khali vise grip segment was incredible thanks to Finlay and Hornswoggle's facial expressions - that segment added a great deal of genuine drama to the Khali-Finlay match, and Burke-Batista was pretty damn good. Much better SD than the past few weeks. Batista's on commentary, so this could very well change.

Just saw the tna taping and Senshi's match was fuckin' amazing!

Maybe it's just me, but those kicks still get me to rewind and wonder how he does them. Also, the main event was great imo (best part was before the commercial break when everyone went over the top and nash ran to the ropes but laughed when he got there).

I think I figured out why I like tna so much though...the fast paced action and not necessarily straightforward storyline (along with matches and whatnot) even though it is rediculous sounding sometimes

For instance, I watched a recording of this week's ECW and it wasn't anything worthy of watching (past weeks it's been Jesse & Festus that made it good for me) as the wrestling felt very slow-paced and no real "wow" moments really came up (aside from benjamin's kick to yang and majors going over the top rope) Tna seems to make it more rememberable with their spots.

The other point I wanted to make was that Tna doesn't rely on the tried and true formula of what Wwe does (as in have main title matches at each ppv, boasting their new guys to be unstoppable, having matches that are sooo predicatble, etc) which I find to be pretty cool. Sure, I thought thet Feast or Fired match was pretty absurd but after seeing that past iMPACT, I'm left surprised by how well it actually turned out. I'm thinking Petey gets the x title shot, Daniels gets fired, Bg gets the world title, and Scott gets the tag title shot, but who knows..

Oh as for the Rebboj remark, that's hilarious - not much of a killer if he can't win his matches, but maybe it'll make him more of a monster that he's not winning?

And about who will be the greatest person in the history of Raw...I expect Hogan to win it, if not Austin or the Rock (my personal pick). Who knows, it'll probably go to Vinnie Mac though..

A monster that always loses... yeah, that could be entertaining.

For those who want to see the early days of TNA... XTW has a torrent up with every Wednesday PPV from the first one to the last Wednesday PPV from 2003. 53.2 gigs total.

So, I decided to get the Amazon DOTD today. $20, so I needed $5 in filler for free shipping. So, I was browsing around Amazon, and found what I needed.

WWF Attitude. Dreamcast.

The final copy officially sold by Amazon... 8 years, 1 month, and 5 days after it was released.

:applause:

Not really that interesting or important, but it amused me.

Not at all. Remember when Michaels "lost his smile"? Or when he was beat up by 15 dudes outside a bar, so he wouldn't have to job to Shane Douglas? He was not always up front back then, though the only way that came across to the viewers was when he would discover a new way to drop his title without laying down.

For all the shit people give Bret Hart about treating his win/loss record as real, or being his own biggest mark, HBK sure didn't seem willing to be an exemplar. In fact, their problems stemmed from:
1) Both wanted to be champ
2) Both bought their own bullshit
3) Neither liked to job

How can you reconcile that? Management can say "You're going over tonight," but you've immediately fostered resentment and bitterness in the guy who has to take the loss that night. Don't treat HBK like a saint, because he wasn't. He's more like Bret Hart than anyone would care to admit.

Er... I meant eventually... eventually Michaels came clean as to how much of a jackass he was, and I think has really made an effort to do things fairly since he came back. He did put over Kurt, Orton, Cena (repeatedly), Goldberg, Jericho, Edge and jobbed to Hogan knowing damn well Hogan would never return the favor.

Unlike Bret, Michaels will probably be able to leave wrestling one day and not reflect with bitterness. My guess is Michaels' only major regret is being unable to wrestle during the peak of the "Attitude era" and missing out on wrestling the Rock in his prime and Triple H's rise to the top.

American freakin' Gladiators tomorrow. Not sure when the episode will air (it's the one before the last Eliminator), but the show comes back sometime in January. The chance to meet the Hulkster is at an all time high - I may crap my pants in excitement.

Not really a fan of that promotion. Seen a couple matches on youtube and can already tell I'd be bored if I went to a live event.

Oh BTW, myke, what happened with the OVW spoiler? I caught the show yesterday and that match wasn't even on it.

OVW TV is a week behind; I don't know if it's just in Cincy or in Louisville as well.

I do recall that the Jacob Duncan/Antoni Pulaski "Halloween" match happened on tv on like November 10.

ROH is coming to Dayton on 1/28? Wow, from 8 months b/w to 8 weeks b/w. I'm going to try to make the January show.

Youtube isn't really the best indication of a ROH show.

ROH shows are exciting to be at live. Been to all three shows here. I still get chills in my spine when I think of:

A) Meeting Ricky Steamboat.
B) Getting into a verbal war of words with CM Punk.
C) Samoa Joe vs Homicide for the ROH title as the main event of the first show I went to. Awesome match even with the non-ending.
D) Having Samoa Joe parade a sign I brought around to the crowd.... then see Joe get one of his few losses in ROH afterwards.
E) Watching an AMAZING 2 out of 3 falls match between Bryan Danielson vs Nigel McGuiness go to the limit.... of course the main event of show two. :D
F) Seeing Colt Cabana's second to last show.
F) Seeing Morishima vs Austin Aries for the ROH title as the main event of the third show.

Despite what I feel about ROH's overall wrestling philosophy and the ROH characters, their live shows are definitely a blast. If I had a choice of a TNA or ROH show for the same price, same seating, I'd probably go with the TNA show... but the good thing about ROH shows is that they're most likely cheaper. I ended up paying around $25 for 4th row seating at the last show I went... even though I came about a half hour late, I still felt like I got my money's worth at the end of the night.

From the Newswire!

The first talent roster has been announced for 1/25 in Dayton and 1/26 in Chicago. Already signed for 1/25 in Dayton is Nigel McGuinness vs. Chris Hero. Either man could walk into this match as World Champion after "Final Battle 2007" in Manhattan.

If either is World Champion they will put the belt on the line. McGuinness vs. Roderick Strong has been signed for 1/26 in Chicago.

Also signed for both nights: ROH World Tag Team Champions Jay & Mark Briscoe; Bryan Danielson; Claudio Castagnoli; The Vulture Squad of Jack Evans, Ruckus & Jigsaw; The Age Of The Fall of Jimmy Jacobs, Lacey, Tyler Black & The Necro Butcher; Austin Aries; Erick Stevens; Delirious; Davey Richards & Rocky Romero of No Remorse Corps; The Hangmen Three of Adam Pearce, Brent Albright & BJ Whitmer; Daizee Haze plus more!!! Tickets for both shows are on sale now at ROHwrestling.com.

____

Nigel McGuiness is going to be missing the Boston/Edison shows because he will be heading to Japan for a Pro Wrestling NOAH tour. He'll be returning to states to defend the belt in Dayton/Chicago provided he is still the champion.

I actually miss Morishima as champion. After his initial Dragon defense in NYC, he seemed to start to grow into the role of champion and I don't think the full potential of his reign was explored.
