Arc Rise Fantasia RPG Gen. Discussion & Info+new Trailer Up

The game is good fun. Really, the fundmentals -- combat, equipment, etc. -- are very sound and there are no random battles. The story is convoluted but that's nothing new for JRPGs. As for the voice acting... it's pretty mediocre, but it's not *quite* as bad as the trailers suggest. It's no...

Arc Rise Fantasia RPG Gen. Discussion & Info+new Trailer Up

Really too bad about the VO. It's like Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean all over again...

    Tru 5/23 - 5/29

Some unique deals in there; the Harry Potter deal isn't for everyone but you have to like the concept.

Arc Rise Fantasia RPG Gen. Discussion & Info+new Trailer Up

I've already been through the lousy localization adventure on Wii already -- Opoona. That localization was so sloppy some of the dialogue responses were actually incorrect to what you answered. Somehow, though, Opoona managed to be charming enough to overcome that deficiency. We can hope (I...

DS World Ends With You $15.99 at Amazon

The answer to that question is why the game is so good. :)

The Conduit - "It's time to go to work."

I didn't end up tweaking the controls nearly as much as I thought I would. I'd be interested to know what you changed.

    Which to choose?

I second this one. I'd go with Galaxy, RE4 and Zack and Wiki.

The Conduit - "It's time to go to work."

For most people who were looking at this realistically, that sounds about right. The review was a laudatory but also pointed out its flaws. I do admit I'm a bit concerned about the lag issue; I can only hope that's at the server level and can be ironed out before people start massing online...

    Best rechargeable for wiimote?

I know you said you didn't want it, but the Nyko model is the most established and reliable out there.

Nintendo Gamecube Platinum Console (New) - $56 shipped

This isn't bad if you're a collector. If you really want a Cube as a gaming rig and don't want to get Wii, though, you can get a used system for a lot cheaper from several outlets.

Monado: Beginning of the World (Nintendo RPG)

A friend of mine pointed this out. How did it slip under the radar?

Lord of the Rings Online + Mines of Moria = $9.99 (first month free)

My friend is also a lifer. He used his economic stimulus check last year to pay for it -- said it was his way of being patriotic. :)

TOS: Dawn of the New World -- IGN: 6.7, GT: 7.9, NP: 8.0

It's a solid game, but it's also not very Tales-like. If Pokemon became an action RPG and was grafted onto a Tales of Symphonia sequel, this would be it. The gameplay is actually pretty solid and the monster component allows for a lot of customization, but it's also not really the same kind of...

Lord of the Rings Online + Mines of Moria = $9.99 (first month free)

That's a superb deal. Although I'm not an MMOer (games eat enough time as it is), a good friend of mine plays this game relentlessly and loves it. If you like the franchise and want to take the plunge, you could do worse.

    The Official Toys-R-Us Clearance Thread

For no particular reason (hey, it's Friday) I traced the whole bickering thread back to the beginning. I'll admit that the original question asked was probably fairly obvious (I figured out quickly enough what the grey text means without a key) but it would have been simple enough to tell him...

    The Official Toys-R-Us Clearance Thread

I hit up TRU in Ferguson, MO (North St. Louis County) this morning. I picked up Civilization Revolution for DS ($10), although I had to dig around (it was in the "S" for Sid Meier rather than the "C" area). I glanced around for other stuff (primarily DS and Wii) and didn't see anything else...

    Best Charging Station for Remotes?

I think there is a case to be made for using the likes of a Nyko Wii Recharge Station, and just ditching the skins. The Nyko comes with custom battery covers that have a nice grip on them so they won't slip as bad. I realize this leaves the Wii remotes at greater risk of damage, but I can't...

Tales of Graces - Out in Japan, while everyone else waits for the fans

It's nice to see a mothership Tales title headed to Wii. Dawn of the New World was okay, but it never really felt like a true Tales title. This, on the other hand, has promise. After a couple of rather disappointing RPG years for Wii, we're finally seeing some glimmers of hope -- Tales of...

    Special Edition Mario Red DS

I got this version on Amazon for $135. I bought it primarily to get into the DS market (I've never owned the system) but it seemed like a good deal, especially getting NSMB essentially for $5.

TOS: Dawn of the New World -- IGN: 6.7, GT: 7.9, NP: 8.0

I'm about 25 hours into the game... I don't think I can agree with IGN's localization complaints. The translation is pretty good. You want a bad localization, play Opoona. (Not a bad game, but sloppy translation.)
